1. Community Ceremony for the Opening of the Legal Year 2010<\/span><\/h4>\n

You are invited to attend the Community Ceremony for the Opening of the Legal Year 2010, an initiative run by the International Commission of Jurists Victoria. The aim of the ceremony is to mark the beginning of the legal year with a secular public event where a broad cross-section of our community can attend.\u00a0 This includes the legal profession as well as welfare groups, women\u2019s groups, charitable groups, politicians, academics, legal aid groups, indigenous groups, ethnic groups, advocacy groups, religious groups, students and members of the general public. The need to include the broader community in such a ceremony stems from the recognition that any legal system cannot operate without the support and influence of the people it serves. The event is also an excellent opportunity to gain more knowledge about the legal profession and its role in the community as well as a chance to meet some esteemed speakers.<\/p>\n
