New Semester 2 Undergraduate Unit<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">A new undergraduate unit will be introduced   next semester which may  be of interest to some law students. The unit   is called \u201cIntroduction to  Transitional Justice\u201d. It is a cross  between  international criminal  law, international human rights and   international relations. It will  analyse the way that societies,   ranging from Rwanda to South Africa to  Egypt, recover from a legacy of   human rights abuse. Discussion will  include a consideration of   prosecutions, truth commissions, reparations  programs as well as   mechanisms of institutional reform and their  relevance to various case   studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">For more information please see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monash.edu.au\/pubs\/2013handbooks\/units\/LAW4242.html\">unit page in the handbook<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">2. New Semester 2 Elective Unit<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>A new unit, Tax Policy (LAW 4243), is now available for enrollment for semester 2, 2013. This unit will cover issues such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> the role of taxation in a market economy<\/li>\n<li> who should bear the burden of taxation?<\/li>\n<li> what should be taxed &#8211; income, consumption, wealth, resources?<\/li>\n<li> the role of taxation in achieving outcomes beyond revenue raising  including the role of taxation in the redistribution of resources, and  the use of tax expenditures to achieve various social, economic and  political outcomes<\/li>\n<li> the link between the tax and transfer system or, more specifically, the link between taxation and the modern welfare state<\/li>\n<li> the political influence of individuals and groups in shaping tax policy and legal outcomes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on this unit please see the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monash.edu.au\/pubs\/2013handbooks\/units\/LAW4243.html\">handbook entry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #1f5e7b\">.:End Student Gazette 28\/5\/13:.<\/span><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>1.
