Aliens  because we are isolated by bad luck, or by our background, or by our  means of arriving here, or alienated because we cling to values not  shared by the majority. Aliens in our society receive a special kind of  mistreatment, in the hope that they will disappear<\/p>\n<p>Mr Julian Burnside AO QC joined the Bar in 1976 and took silk in  1989. Re-thinking the Role of IP<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Thursday, 22nd August 2013<br \/>\nTime: 6:45 PM &#8211; 8:15 PM<\/p>\n<p>Speaker: Dr Francis Gurry<\/p>\n<p>The lecture will explore the major economic, social, and political developments affecting intellectual property. It will examine how innovation and intellectual property are increasingly central to economic strategy and competitive advantage, and will show how the knowledge economy is causing an adjustment to the way in which we think of the role of intellectual property.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Francis Gurry is Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is the highest-ranking Australian official in a United Nations agency. Dr Gurry is a distinguished alumnus, and a Professorial Fellow, of Melbourne Law School. He holds an LLB and LLM from the University of Melbourne, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge.
