Book Launch &#8211;\u00a0<em>\u201cThe Good Lawyer\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><strong>By Prof Adrian Evans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To be launched by\u00a0<strong>Mr Michael McGarvie, <\/strong>Legal Services Commissioner and CEO, Legal Services Board Victoria.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe Good Lawyer\u201d<\/em> explores the ethical and professional challenges that confront people who work in the law \u2013 or are considering it \u2013 and offers principled and pragmatic advice about how to overcome such challenges.<\/p>\n<p>This book takes a holistic approach that begins with your innate humanity. It urges you to examine your motives for seeking a career in law, to foster a deep understanding of what it means to be \u2018good\u2019, and to draw on your virtue and judgement when difficult choices arise, rather than relying on compliance with rules or codes.<\/p>\n<p>The Good Lawyer analyses four important areas of legal ethics \u2013 truth and deception, professional secrets, conflicts of interest, and professional competence \u2013 and explains the choices that are available when determining a course of moral action. VADR: Metal Health Complaints Commissioner<\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>You are cordially invited to a VADR CPD event will take place on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday 28 October, 2014<\/strong>when Lynne Coulson Barr, the new Mental Health Complaints Commissioner will speak on the topic \u201c<em>New approaches to resolving mental health services complaints.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The need for an independent specialist mental health complaints body was identified from community consultations and feedback in the context of mental health legislative reforms consultations. The Mental Health Complaints Commissioner was established under the Mental Health Act 2014, and commenced operation on\u00a0<strong>Tuesday 1 July, 2014<\/strong>.
