CAMLA Essay Competition<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Communications and Media Law Association (CAMLA) essay competition to be held over the summer of 2014-15.<\/p>\n<p>The competition has been staged very successfully for a number of years and CAMLA is again offering a prize of $1,000 and a 1-year CAMLA membership.<br \/>\nThe winning essay may also be published in CAMLA\u2019s\u00a0<em>Communications Law Bulletin <\/em>and will be awarded at a CAMLA function to be held in early 2015.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s a terrific opportunity for students and we would be grateful if you could draw the competition to the attention of anyone who may be interested.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the competition is to encourage high quality work in undergraduate and post-graduate communications and media law courses<br \/>\nand to improve links between those studying and those practising in the area.<\/p>\n<p>The prize will be given for a previously unpublished essay of between 1,000 and 3,000 words on a subject relating to communications or media law.<\/p>\n<p>Entries close on <strong>Wednesday 14 January, 2015<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For further information please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/lawstudentbulletin\/files\/2014\/12\/CAMLA-Essay-Competition-2014-2015.pdf\">flyer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">3. Chief Justice Medal for Excellence and Community Service<\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nominations have opened for the Chief Justice Medal\u00a0for Excellence and Community Service 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The prize shall be awarded to a LLB\/JD 2014 graduate who is judged to have demonstrated a commitment to community service throughout their law studies as well as excellence in scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Monash has not had a winner since this medal was set up back in 2004, and we are keen to put forward a strong candidate this year.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the past winners can be found on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.victorialawfoundation.org.au\/news\/about-chief-justices-medal-excellence-and-community-service\"><strong>website<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Nomination will close on\u00a0<strong>Wednesday 5 December, 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For further information, please visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.monash.edu.au\/current-students\/student-experience\/cj_medal.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>website<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">4. EDO NSW \u2013 Impact Issue No. 96<\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>EDO NSW has released the latest edition of Impact, our national journal of environmental law.<\/p>\n<p>This edition of Impact contains articles on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ongoing      litigation in Queensland to protect the World Heritage Listed Great      Barrier Reef, which UNESCO is considering placing on its endangered list;<\/li>\n<li>The      increasing use of strategic assessments under the EPBC Act;<\/li>\n<li>The      fundamental principles for best practice biodiversity offsets; and<\/li>\n<li>The      implications of funding cuts for access to justice and the future of      community-based public interest environmental law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your assistance in circulating this journal to your students would be appreciated.<\/p>\n<p>The journal can be downloaded from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.edonsw.org.au\/impact\"><strong>website<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">5. Summer Human Rights Institute<\/span><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The Leitner Center for International Law and Justice at Fordham Law School has announced the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/leitnersummerhumanrightsinstitute.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">2015\u00a0Summer Human Rights Institute (SHRI)<\/a>,<\/strong> to be held from\u00a0<strong>Monday 20\u00a0until Friday 31 July, 2015<\/strong> at Fordham Law School, Lincoln Center, New York City.<\/p>\n<p>The SHRI is a two-week certificate program offering a comprehensive introduction to the theory and application of human rights law. The Institute provides an overview of international law, as well as focused human rights subject lectures, workshops and fieldwork, with Fordham Law faculty and attorneys in public and private practice here in New York.\u00a0Suitable for both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as advanced professionals, the SHRI is open to participants from around the world. All courses and activities are conducted in English \u2014 no language assessment is required \u2014 and the Center will work with participants to secure necessary visas and other arrangements, as needed.<\/p>\n<p>Participants who\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/leitnersummerhumanrightsinstitute.org\/register\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>register<\/strong><\/a> by\u00a0<strong>Wednesday\u00a028 January, 2015<\/strong> will\u00a0receive a reduced tuition fee of $1700, which covers approximately 60 hours of instruction, course materials, lunch on most weekdays, and extracurricular activities. Volunteering at Family Law Assistance Program<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Applicants who are currently on the wait-list to volunteer at the Family Law Assistance Program (FLAP) will remain on the list until <strong>Tuesday 31 December, 2014<\/strong>. After this date applicants will need to re-apply.<\/p>\n<p>FLAP will be accepting new volunteers from <strong>Monday 12 January, 2015<\/strong>.
