1. The 3<\/span>rd<\/span> International Conference of Undergraduate Research (ICUR) <\/span><\/p>\n

Final call for abstract submissions and applications<\/span><\/p>\n

ICUR is a Monash-Warrick Alliance endeavour, spanning two days with conference presenters from across the world linked together by cutting-edge video conferencing technology. It is an exclusively undergraduate forum designed to showcase the best in undergraduate research from across the globe, and to provide a supportive yet critical environment for talented young scholars. The theme of the conference is <\/span>\u201cCurrent research issues in your discipline or area\u201d<\/span>. Submissions are welcomed from all disciplines and perspectives that contribute to that conference theme.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the final call for papers for the ICUR hosted by the Monash-Warrick Alliance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Closing deadline<\/span> for abstract submissions and applications is midnight on <\/span>Friday 22<\/span>nd<\/span> May<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Breaking down the silos- Health \u2013 Justice Partnerships\u2013 the new model for improving access to justice <\/span><\/p>\n

Presenter Linda Gyorki, Senior Project Manager and Lawyer at Inner Melbourne Community Legal will present the findings of her Churchill Fellowship which saw her travel to the USA, UK, Canada in 2014 to research the practical and ethical barriers of integrating legal assistance into a health-care setting.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Book Launch \u2013 Proof of Birth by Melissa Castan and Paula Gerber <\/span><\/p>\n

Australia has not yet achieved universal birth registration, which means that many people without a birth certificate struggle to enjoy the benefits of citizenship. In particular, people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, rural and remote communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities, are overrepresented in the number of unregistered births.<\/span><\/p>\n

This book draws together the work of a range of experts from diverse fields who present recent developments and strategies designed to overcome the barriers to accessing the birth registration systems. This event will be launched by Professor Megan Davis, Professor of Law, Director, Indigenous Law Centre, UNSW and Chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0Access to Justice Symposium <\/span><\/p>\n

ACJI & AIJA Symposium:\u00a0 Access to Justice \u2013 taking the next steps<\/span><\/p>\n

The Australian Centre for Justice Innovation at Monash University and the Australasian Institute for Judicial Administration are hosting a one-day Symposium that will bring together senior judicial officers, researchers and policy-makers from around Australia to explore and discuss the opportunities and challenges arising from the Productivity Commission\u2019s Access to Justice Arrangements Inquiry report.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Symposium will consider how the issues of costs, timeliness, obligations and processes impact upon accessing the justice system as well as examining issues relating to Legal Aid and Legal Centres. The Symposium will feature keynote speakers and panel discussions from senior judicial officers, administrators and researchers, including Dr Warren Mundy, Commissioner, Productivity Commission, His Honour Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Cannon AM, Adelaide Magistrates Court, The Honourable Justice John Middleton, Federal Court of Australia, and Mr Mark Woods, Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria\u2019s Access to Justice Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n
