Have your say on how to improve Victoria\u2019s Charter of Human Rights<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal;line-height: 1.38;background-color: transparent\">The Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (the Charter) protects <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;font-size: 13px;font-weight: normal;line-height: 1.38;background-color: transparent\">20 rights and freedoms of all people in Victoria.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-family: Verdana;font-weight: normal;vertical-align: baseline;background-color: transparent\"> <\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-family: Verdana;font-weight: normal;vertical-align: baseline;background-color: transparent\">It requires state and local government authorities to respect and promote human rights when they serve the community.<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-family: Verdana;font-weight: normal;vertical-align: baseline;background-color: transparent\"> <\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-family: Verdana;font-weight: normal;vertical-align: baseline;background-color: transparent\">The Attorney-General, the Hon Martin Pakula MP, has appointed Michael Brett Young to conduct an independent review of the Charter and report back to the Government by<\/span><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"line-height: 1.38;margin-top: 0pt;margin-bottom: 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size: 13px;font-family: Verdana;font-weight: normal;vertical-align: baseline;background-color: transparent\">1 September 2015. Book Launch \u2013 Proof of Birth by Melissa Castan and Paula Gerber<\/h3>\n<p>Australia has not yet achieved universal birth registration, which means that many people without a birth certificate struggle to enjoy the benefits of citizenship. In particular, people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, rural and remote communities and culturally and linguistically diverse communities, are overrepresented in the number of unregistered births.<\/p>\n<p>This book draws together the work of a range of experts from diverse fields who present recent developments and strategies designed to overcome the barriers to accessing the birth registration systems.
