Rhodes Scholarships 2017 &#8211; applications now open<\/h2>\n<p>Applications for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk\/australia\">Rhodes Scholarships<\/a> for 2017 are now open and will close at 5.00 pm on\u00a0<strong>Thursday 1 September 2016<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The Rhodes Scholarship is one of the oldest and most distinguished scholarships in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Previous winners from Australia include prime ministers Malcolm Turnbull, Tony Abbott and Bob Hawke, Justices Hayne and Heydon of the High Court of Australia, and Justice Elizabeth Hollingworth of the Victorian Supreme Court, pioneer in evidence-based medicine Anna Donald, Director General of CIVICUS Dhananjayan Sivaguru Sriskandarajah, Nobel Prize winners Sir John Eccles and Lord Howard Florey, and infrastructure expert Sir Rod Eddington.<\/p>\n<p>Successful candidates will receive assistance with their travelling expenses to the UK, as well as a monthly allowance to contribute towards their living expenses whilst in Oxford. In addition, all University tuition fees are paid on the scholar&#8217;s behalf by the Rhodes Trust.<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes Scholarships are available to those who have completed by 15 June 2017, at least four years\u2019 of university study, such as an outstanding Honours degree, a combined degree or graduate degree, and enjoy success at a range of activities such as sports, involvement in community activities, and have a desire to lead and make a difference in the world. Inaugural Michael Taussig QC Family Law Essay Awards<\/h2>\n<p>The Family Law Section of the Law Council of Australia is pleased to invite law students to participate in the inaugural\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.familylawsection.org.au\/news\/119-applications-now-open-for-the-michael-taussig-qc-family-law-essay-awards-for-2016\">Michael Taussig QC Family Law Essay Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Awards commemorate the life and contribution of Michael Taussig QC, one of the Family Law Section\u2019s most outstanding members.<\/p>\n<p>The Family Law Section is the largest of the Law Council&#8217;s specialist sections. Since its inception in 1985, the Section has developed a reputation as a source of innovative, constructive and informed leadership in all areas of family law reform and policy development. International Students Work Rights Legal Service<\/h2>\n<p>A new\u00a0<strong>International Students Work Rights Legal Service<\/strong> is now operating in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>JobWatch Inc, in collaboration with the Study Melbourne Student Centre and Inner Melbourne Community Legal, is operating this new legal service at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.studymelbourne.vic.gov.au\/help-and-advice\/the-law-and-your-rights\/legal-advice\">Study Melbourne Student Centre<\/a> <strong>every Thursday<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Study Melbourne Student Centre (SMSC) is a free and confidential \u2018one stop shop\u2019 where international students in Victoria can access a range of free support, information and welfare services.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the service, a JobWatch lawyer will be based at the Study Melbourne Student Centre\u00a0<strong>each Thursday<\/strong> from\u00a0<strong>9.00am until 5.00pm<\/strong> to give international students free and confidential legal advice about work-related matters. Volunteers for Australian Advocacy Institute workshop &#8211; $100 vouchers<\/h2>\n<p>The Australian Advocacy Institute (AAI) is conducting an advocacy skills workshop for the Commonwealth DPP at the Family Court in Melbourne on <strong>Saturday 2 July 2016<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop involves performance and review of various techniques in trial advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the program, the AAI requires 4 volunteers to film some of the participant performances for the purpose of review.
