3. Emotional Wellbeing for Lawyers: How to succeed with peace, purpose and happiness<\/h2>\n

4. Cultural Diversity in the Law ft. Chief Judge Peter Kidd<\/h2>\n

The Chief Judge of the County Court, the Hon Peter Kidd SC, will talk about the legal community\u2019s burgeoning diversity, with increasing numbers of practitioners coming from different ethnic backgrounds. Even though this diversity is seen at the solicitor it is yet to be appropriately reflected on the bench.<\/p>\n

The Chief Judge will talk about the strides made thus far to accomodate the diverse legal community; the challenges that lie ahead and the cost to our legal system if the bench does not reflect the diverse society in which we live.<\/p>\n

6. International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia<\/h2>\n
Monash will be celebrating the LGBTIQ community events throughout Week 10 to mark the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT).<\/div>\n

May 17 commemorates the World Health Organisation’s decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990 and has been celebrated since 2004 to highlight the violence and discrimination experienced by the LGBTIQ community.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

This year the theme is Justice and Protection for All. It reminds us that injustice, fear and danger are present in the lives of many LGBTIQ communities here and around the world. Across the globe, 72 states still criminalise same-sex sexual relations, while only 63 states provide some form of anti-discrimination protection. We don’t believe that’s fair.<\/div>\n

So come and celebrate with the Australian LGBTIQ community and students and staff from across the university. Let’s send a message to the world \u2013 we want justice and protection for all.<\/div>\n

7. Mental Health & Well-being in Law<\/h2>\n

Legally Yours, together with Clarence Workspaces for Solicitors, present a CPD Event on Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Law at Macquarie Bank in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The Legal industry has one of the worst retention rates of all of the professions. Burnt out, stressed, overworked and depressed lawyers are common place, yet as an industry there is still a common sentiment that to admit mental health issues or to discuss wellbeing is a sign of weakness.<\/p>\n

8. Monash Runs for Refugees \u2013 Raise $100,000 to support Asylum Seeker Scholarships at Monash<\/h2>\n

On July 28, hundreds of Monash staff, students, and alumni are taking part in Run Melbourne to raise $100,000 for Asylum Seeker Scholarships here at Monash, and you can help make a difference.<\/p>\n

Through the generosity of staff, students, and alumni over $50,000 was raised last year \u2013 that\u2019s enough to cover over a year of an asylum seeker\u2019s education at Monash. Despite our success, there\u2019s still an enormous need as over 50% of those who applied for a scholarship this year weren\u2019t able to be offered a place.<\/p>\n
