Andrew Demetriou is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Football League.\u00a0 The AFL administers the 16-team national competition and guides the game of Australian Football that currently has more than 733,000 participants and supports a $3.4 billion industry that employs the equivalent of 9500 full-time jobs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since Mr Demetriou became CEO, the AFL has also expanded its programs in indigenous and multicultural communities, changed its racial and religious vilification rule to outlaw vilification on the basis of gender or sexuality and developed a respect and responsibility program to build safe and inclusive environments for women.
\n\u00a0
\nFor three years prior to being appointed CEO in September 2003, Mr Demetriou served as General Manager, Football Operations, overseeing all aspects of operating the 16-team AFL competition.\u00a0 In 1998, Mr Demetriou became CEO of the AFL Players Association and was instrumental in establishing programs to look after players during their careers and after their retirement.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr Demetriou is Public Appeal Chairman for the Olivia Newton John Cancer Centre, a member of the National Australia Bank\u2019s Community Advisory Council and Chair of the Federal Government\u2019s Australian Multicultural Advisory Council.<\/p>\n

3. National Youth Summit<\/span><\/h4>\n

Wish you could participate in a national conference specifically aimed at passionate and engaged tertiary students who want to make difference? Well look no further and make history by registering as a delegate as part of United Nations Youth Association\u2019s first, inaugural National Youth Summit!<\/p>\n

This four day conference will bring together around 200 of Australia\u2019s most engaged and intelligent tertiary minds, will expose students to experts in the field of Human Rights, and will allow for designated policy workshops where you will be able to discuss matters of domestic and international importance with the aim of developing a \u2018Youth Declaration\u2019.<\/p>\n

The theme for this year\u2019s conference is Human Rights, which will be broken down into smaller focus themes including Conflict, Good Governance, Gender Equality and Minorities.<\/p>\n

\nReprieve is an Australian non-government organisation that fights the death penalty.\u00a0 It seeks to provide effective legal representation and humanitarian assistance to those facing the death penalty, to advocate against the death penalty and to raise awareness about human rights.<\/p>\n

Established in Melbourne, Australia in May 2001, Reprieve Australia conducts volunteer programs at home and abroad, including sending Australians to defend clients facing the death penalty.\u00a0 It also produces newsletters and news updates, conducts awareness raising events and works with other organisations to abolish capital punishment.<\/p>\n
