This group attended a procedural skills training session held recently in East Gippsland.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A survey of procedural skills practice and training needs of health professionals in Gippsland is now underway.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Rural Health in Gippsland, in partnership with regional GP training provider<a title=\"Opens the Southern GP Training home page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.southerngptraining.com.au\/\"> Southern GP Training<\/a>, is undertaking a large survey of the training requirements in procedural skills amongst doctors, nurses and paramedics in Gippsland.<\/p>\n<p>The project is being led by Professor Debra Nestel from Gippsland Medical School and Associate Professor David Campbell from East Gippsland Regional Clinical School, and is funded by a grant from <a title=\"Opens the GPET home page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gpet.com.au\/\">General Practice Education and Training (GPET)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project aims<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The aim of the project is to identify the need for continued education in procedural skills amongst these professional groups, to inform planning for simulation-based education in particular, in this area of clinical practice in Gippsland.<\/p>\n<p>As many doctors, nurses and paramedics as possible \u2013 working in hospitals, community health centres, private medical clinics and in community practice \u2013 will be contacted to contribute to the study. Vocational trainees in each of these disciplines are also being contacted.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Taking part in the study<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Invitations to be involved in the study will be delivered through administration departments of health services and health education bodies across the region. For example, public hospitals in the region have been asked to invite staff to contribute to the survey via an information sheet attached to staff pay slips.<\/p>\n<p>The research involves completion of an on-line survey, which is entirely anonymous. Participants will not be able to be identified from the information submitted in the questionnaire.
