Daryl officially finishes in June but will take leave  from Easter before starting his new role as the inaugural Professor of Rural  General Practice for Deakin University, based in Warrnambool.<\/p>\n<p>The launch of the School of Rural Health\u2019s 20th anniversary celebrations gave  Daryl the opportunity to reflect on his time with the School, which he joined in  2003. He told the group that when he joined the Gippsland Regional Clinical  School he had a strong interest in population health and an equally strong  conviction about the suitability of rural training for the MBBS. The program\u00a0was  in its infancy when Daryl started in Gippsland.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI leave with confirmation of rural training for the MBBS,\u201d Daryl said.  \u201cRural training is now well integrated into the Faculty\u2019s MBBS curriculum  delivery program. In fact, with almost every clinical session I do, which is two  shifts a week in the Emergency Department at Latrobe Regional Hospital, I work  with Interns, Residents or Registrars who have trained here (at Gippsland) or at  another SRH site.<br \/>\n\u201cThat is a sign of how successful the program has  become.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daryl believes he has gained a lot during his time with Monash University,  including more clinical and medical education experience, more research skills  applicable to both medical education and population health and, not least, a  completed doctorate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will leave here with very fond memories of the staff, the School and the  many students who have taken part in the program over the past nine years.\u201d\u00a0  Staff, students and others involved with the Gippsland School joined Daryl for a  farewell luncheon this week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks and farewell from Daryl Pedler Gippsland Director, Associate Professor Daryl Pedler, effectively completes his stint with the Gippsland Regional Clinical School this week (April 5) after taking up an opportunity to move back to south west Victoria.
