{"id":1496,"date":"2013-06-04T13:47:46","date_gmt":"2013-06-04T02:47:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-blogs-monash-edu.pantheonsite.io\/rural-health\/?p=1496"},"modified":"2013-06-04T13:47:46","modified_gmt":"2013-06-04T02:47:46","slug":"thanks-to-volunteers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/2013\/06\/04\/thanks-to-volunteers\/","title":{"rendered":"Thanks a Million to volunteers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A \u2018Thanks a Million\u2019 afternoon tea party was held for volunteers at Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS) in mid-May during Volunteers\u2019 Week.<\/p>\n<p>According to Jane Taylor, the MUDRIH lecturer who supervises a student-centred clinic at LCHS, the volunteers are \u201cour secret weapon in providing a powerful role in student learning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe volunteers are first trained as simulated clients, and they are on call to be interviewed by Interprofessional pairs of students. We were delighted to honour two of our faithful volunteer simulated clients, who have attended regularly since the student clinic started in 2010, amongst the finalists in the \u2018Volunteer of the Year\u2019. Some of our volunteers who are our simulated clients attended for the party along with many other LCHS volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018Thanks a Million\u2019 volunteer afternoon tea had a 1960\u2019s Rock and Roll theme.<\/p>\n<p>Kerry Bell, administrative officer at MUDRIH for the GRIPS project and who also works at LCHS, collaborated with the LCHS volunteer coordinator Joanne Creighton to create a sixties ambiance.
