{"id":239,"date":"2012-06-06T16:50:18","date_gmt":"2012-06-06T05:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-blogs-monash-edu.pantheonsite.io\/rural-health\/?p=239"},"modified":"2012-06-06T16:50:18","modified_gmt":"2012-06-06T05:50:18","slug":"gippsland-primary-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/2012\/06\/06\/gippsland-primary-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Working with primary school a learning experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_241\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-241\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-241\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/files\/2012\/06\/blog-Grey-STreet.jpg\" alt=\"Medical student, Tracey and Michael, talked to primary school students about the workings of the human body with the help of an anatomy model.\" width=\"430\" height=\"200\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-241\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Medical student, Tracey and Michael, talked to primary school students about the workings of the human body with the help of an anatomy model.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A room full of eager 11 and 12 years olds firing questions about the human body turned out to be a great learning experience for Gippsland Regional Clinical School Year 4C students Tracey Zakazakaarcher and Michael Batt.<\/p>\n<p>The pair volunteered to undertake the first of a series of local primary school visits planned for Gippsland this year, facing up to more than 100 students over two sessions from Grey Street Primary School in Traralgon.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Tracey and Michael\u2019s role was to take a session that complemented the Year 5 and 6 program \u2018My Body.\u2019\u00a0 With help of a couple of models with lots of removable internal parts, the medical students discussed various parts of the human anatomy and the role each plays in the way the body functions.<\/p>\n<p>For the medical students the session was a valuable lesson in communicating with a young age group.\u00a0 The session was very well received by the young students and it\u2019s fair to say their knowledge certainly surprised and tested both Michael and Tracey on occasion!<\/p>\n<p>The School was also impressed with the workshop and is keen for similar sessions in the future.<br \/>\nOther visits by medical students are scheduled over the next couple of months at primary schools in Morwell, Moe, Warragul and Jindivick.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A room full of eager 11 and 12 years olds firing questions about the human body turned out to be a great learning experience for Gippsland Regional Clinical School Year 4C students Tracey Zakazakaarcher and Michael Batt.
