{"id":2625,"date":"2014-03-31T14:29:24","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T03:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-blogs-monash-edu.pantheonsite.io\/rural-health\/?p=2625"},"modified":"2014-04-10T14:58:27","modified_gmt":"2014-04-10T03:58:27","slug":"kikass-takes-a-look-at-careers-in-health","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/2014\/03\/31\/kikass-takes-a-look-at-careers-in-health\/","title":{"rendered":"KIKASS takes a look at careers in health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The School of Rural Health \u2013 East Gippsland education centre in Bairnsdale will host a special forum\u00a0 &#8211; Just Looking @ Careers in Health &#8211; in April to encourage local students, and Indigenous students in particular, to consider a career in health.<\/p>\n<p>This innovative approach to health education is being run in partnership with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesmithfamily.com.au\/what-we-do\/our-work\/supporting-aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-families\/kikass\">KIKASS <\/a>(Keeping Indigenous Kids at Secondary School), a high school support program for Indigenous students at Bairnsdale Secondary College run by the Smith Family.<\/p>\n<p>Students will be given a tour of the school, visit the skills lab and be trained in basic life support with the help of Jimmy, the hi-tech mannequin.
