{"id":3645,"date":"2014-12-02T12:00:09","date_gmt":"2014-12-02T01:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-blogs-monash-edu.pantheonsite.io\/rural-health\/?p=3645"},"modified":"2014-12-04T11:11:14","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T00:11:14","slug":"pam-snow-brunei","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/2014\/12\/02\/pam-snow-brunei\/","title":{"rendered":"Pam Snow keynote speaker in Brunei"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_3776\" style=\"width: 440px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3776\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3776\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/files\/2014\/12\/Conference-Pam-Snow.jpg\" alt=\"Oral language importance: Associate Professor Pamela Snow delivers the keynote speech at the 5th Brunei English Language Teachers\u2019 Association Conference.\" width=\"430\" height=\"331\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Oral language importance: Associate Professor Pamela Snow delivers the keynote speech at the 5th Brunei English Language Teachers\u2019 Association Conference.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Associate Professor Pamela Snow, was the keynote speaker at 5<sup>th<\/sup> Brunei English Language Teachers\u2019 Association International Conference in November.<\/p>\n<p>Pam\u2019s speech was based on her research entitled \u201cOral Language Supports Early Literacy: A Pilot Cluster Randomised Trial in Disadvantaged Schools\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She outlined some of the key drivers of early language competence \u2013 parental position on the social gradient, early language experience, exposure to written text and shared book-time at home, and neurodevelopmental disorders that can compromise early language development.<\/p>\n<p>Pam highlighted the need for evidence-based early literacy instruction, encompassing the use of teaching approaches that are strongly informed by research linking early language skills to emergent literacy.<\/p>\n<p>The association is sponsored and supported by several embassies and agencies, including the Australian Department of Education and the Australian Trade Commission.<\/p>\n<p>The conference saw 14 paper presentations and workshops, highlighting issues of literacy and was attended by more than 100 participants.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Snow holds a conjoint appointment with the Department of Pyschiatry and the School of Rural Health, and is based in Bendigo.
