{"id":76,"date":"2012-03-20T10:04:13","date_gmt":"2012-03-19T23:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test-blogs-monash-edu.pantheonsite.io\/rural-health\/?p=76"},"modified":"2012-03-20T10:05:12","modified_gmt":"2012-03-19T23:05:12","slug":"jess-loses-her-locks-for-a-good-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/2012\/03\/20\/jess-loses-her-locks-for-a-good-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Jess loses her locks for a good cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_78\" style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-78\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-78\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.monash.edu\/rural-health\/files\/2012\/03\/jess1.jpg\" alt=\"Jessica Dean shaved the dreads she loved for the World's Greatest Shave\" width=\"500\" height=\"280\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-78\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jessica Dean shaved the dreads she loved for the World&#39;s Greatest Shave<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A Bendigo-based medical student shaved off her waist-length blonde dreadlocks to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation as part of the <a title=\"Opens the World's Greatest Shave home page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.worldsgreatestshave.com\/\">World\u2019s Greatest Shave<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jessica adopted dreadlocks while living in the arid desert in the south of Israel four years ago where she spent six months as a volunteer paramedic.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople have hated them, strangers have spoken to me on public transport because of them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither way I have loved these dreads for the last four years, so what better for them to go than to sacrifice them for a great cause?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director of the Bendigo Regional Clinical School, Professor Geoff Solarsh, said Jessica\u2019s plans to shave off her dreadlocks had posed some tricky logistical problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNone of our staff were willing to tackle the job for fear of hurting Jessica, so we called on friends to help,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA professional hairdresser, Tracy, volunteered her time to come and support Jessica\u2019s fund raising efforts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jessica aimed to raise over $1,500 but has now raised close to $2,000.
