Easter is coming soon and is a day of celebration and indulgence. While it’s easy to go overboard at this great time, remember, it’s all about balance. Below are five tips that will help you during the Easter Break.
1. Start your day with a healthy breakfast – that way you won’t fill up on too many of the easter goodies at lunch time.
2. Get your fill of vegetables – veggies and salad are low GI and will fill you up for longer, reducing the amount of sweets and chocolate you eat.
3. Remember your serving sizes – Serve more than half your plate with veggies, a quarter with grains and the other with protein. You’ll stay fuller for longer.
4. Keep chocolate for dessert – Its Easter and eating chocolate can be a treat for desert but remember, eating Easter eggs on an empty stomach will spike your blood sugar levels and put you on a hunger and energy level roller coaster.
5. Drink Plenty of Water – Drink water instead of sugary drinks or alcohol.

Why am I Hungrier in the Winter?
In the cooler Autumn and Winter months when the temperature drops, your body temperature can drop also which can stimulate your appetite and hunger.
Thermogenisis is a term to describe food’s overall warming effect on the body. Somewhere between 30 to 60 minutes after you eat, your body will generate about 10 percent more heat than when you have an empty stomach.
This increased metabolism stems primarily from energy released during digestion. In short eating not only provides fuel but also increases heat production (warmth).
Eat up, exercise and keep warm.
