To celebrate the launch of Healthy Vending at Monash, Monash students and staff can win a week’s worth of healthy snacks.
There are 30 snack bundles up for grabs and all you need to do is take a photo enjoying one of the many healthy snacks on offer, and post it to instagram. Monash will be offering free health checks for staff commencing in August.
The free 20-minute health checks will be run at multiple Monash campuses and sites, and will include:
- A check of your total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, blood pressure and blood glucose and waist circumference all measured by a health professional.
- An assessment of your type 2 diabetes risk, cardiovascular disease risk, and modifiable risk factors (smoking and exercise)
- Individual results card, results consultation and recommendation.
Further information will be distributed to faculties and will also be available on the wellbeing website soon – so keep your eyes posted!

The Monash Bikeshare scheme is now free to all Monash staff and students at Clayton. All you need to do is register!

Dental Health Week will run from 7th of August and this year’s focus is promoting oral health for busy lives. Even with a busy lifestyle it is important to maintain good oral hygiene techniques and to make regular dental check-ups a priority.
Monash University Dental Clinic is located at the Clayton campus centre inside the UHS. New patients seen during dental health week will receive a free dental show bag.

The Victorian Government is committed to continuing the state’s strong history of tobacco reforms. Smoking will soon be banned in all outdoor dining areas in Victoria while food is available.
From 1 August 2017, the Tobacco Amendment Act 2016 will amend the Tobacco Act 1987 to ban smoking in outdoor dining areas. The ban will cover all outdoor dining areas at restaurants, cafes, take-away shops and licenced premises.

This program consists of 6 x weekly 60 minute sessions. You will learn how to use mindfulness and compassion training to reduce stress and improve your relationship with yourself and others. Research shows this results in better wellbeing and enhanced performance, as well as increased empathy and improved relationships.
Dates of the sessions are: Tuesdays, Sept 12, 19, 26, Oct 3, 10 & 17

Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves a series of simple meditative practices and cognitive strategies to help change unproductive thought and behaviour patterns. Mindfulness can also be described as an attitude to living and may enhance:

- – work and study performance
- – contentment, peace of mind and balance
- – relationships at home and work
- – concentration and focus in the moment
- – resilience
- – physical and emotional health

WinterFest: Try out Glow Yoga!
Glow with the flow as the tranquility of yoga explodes in swirls of colour – under blacklight! The glow-in-the-dark yoga phenomenon meets silent disco at The Dome this WinterFest, with two intense sessions aided by music piped through noise-cancelling headsets. We had great fun hosting the Monash Staff Games last week, and the staff who participated enjoyed it as well! A lot of staff tried out sports they had never played before, all in the spirit of ‘having a go’ with their colleagues. We look forward to the Monash Staff Games next year!
