5. MOLS Advice Only Program

Unfortunately, the MOLS Advice Only Program would otherwise not be accepting any more applications in 2012 – next announcement will be in February 2013. Thank you to all students who are interested to volunteer at Monash-Oakleigh Legal Service (MOLS).

Due to the overwhelming response from applicants in 2012 for the Advice Only Program, students who have been accepted to be on the waiting list will be considered for the September 2012 – April 2013 volunteering period.

Those students who are currently on the waiting list will be contacted if successful for the upcoming round by 6pm on 3 August 2012. Students on the waiting list who are not selected to volunteer in the September 2012 – April 2013 round will not be contacted but will remain on the waiting list until December 2012 and approached if other opportunities arise. Those students on the waiting list who are not selected to start in September 2012 will need to re-apply for a spot in the Advice Only Program in 2013 if eligible (students must be in their first to third year of undergraduate studies or within the first 3 trimesters of the JD program to apply).

6. Moodle

Law has moved to Moodle Virtual Learning Environment as from Semester 2, 2012. Most students may be familiar with Moodle from use in double degrees.

A two minute slide show explaining Moodle’s functionality, recommended browsers and other support resources is available here. The faculty recommends you familiarise yourself with the contents of this page to maximise your experience using Moodle.

7. Volunteering at FLAP

Students in their third year of studies or higher, or have had experience in family law or community legal centres are invited to apply to volunteer at the Family Law Assistance Program (FLAP) at the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service. FLAP recruits volunteers on a needs basis several times a year. Applicants will be contacted when vacancies and training sessions arise.

Students who participate will gain experience in a wide range of areas including making formal arrangements in relation to children as well as property division and settlement. Students will interview clients and assist drafting court documents and correspondence.

Please contact Jenn Lindstrom, Volunteer Coordinator by email at mols-volunteer@monash.edu for an application form.
