3. R U OK? Day

R U OK? Day is our national day of action and dedicated to reminding people to regularly check in with family and friends.

The Law Faculty will be holding a morning tea on Thursday 12 September, 2013 from 10.30 am to 11.30 am in the basement, building 12.

We ask that staff and/or students please bring yellow food for morning tea ie. Yellow cup cakes, macaroons, yellow fruit or lollies. Use your imagination! Could you also please wear a touch of yellow. Some staff/students will still have the R U OK? T’shirts from last year and we ask that you wear this on the day.

The Monash University R U OK? Day committee are organising a Cake Competition. Cakes will be judged by photo (no tasting required). Please be creative, keep the R U OK? Day theme in mind. We will take a photo of your cake at the morning tea and enter it into the University competition. The Law Faculty will also judge any cakes entered into the competition by Law staff or students for two Gold Class movie tickets.

We hope you can all join us to spread the awareness of this very important message.

5. Vis Moot Applications

21st Annual Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot

Formal applications for students interested in the Willem C Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot for 2013/14 held in Hong Kong and Vienna next March and April are now invited.

Participation can count for your degree as a 6 point subject. The subject is an intensive and practical introduction to problem based learning and legal analysis in a small group environment. It develops strategic thinking and provides experience in a simulated international commercial arbitration. It is not just for those interested in commercial law. Law firms recognize and highly value the skills provided by the Vis moot.

Past students frequently comment that it was the “best thing I did in law school”. Only a small number of participants will be selected. Please note that you may apply for both Jessup moot and Vis moots, but please indicate this when applying.

If you are interested, please consult the email sent last week to all students, and visit the following page for more information and the application form, which is due by 28 August 2013. Please also see this flyer for more info.
