1. Monash LSS presents Class of 2016 Valedictory

The hard slog is over. After years of blood, sweat and tears, now is the time to celebrate the end of your law degree!

Monash LSS presents the Class of 2016 Valedictory.

This event is open to anyone who is completing their studies during 2016, either mid-year or at the end of the year. Partners and/or guests are welcome to attend.

2. Bottled Snail Productions present Crime & Punishment: Cabaret for a Cause

After a smash hit 2014 foray into cabaret with Secret Life of a Lawyer, BottledSnail Productions is proud to return to the ‘scene of the crime’ with its 2016 headline production, Crime & Punishment: Cabaret for a Cause. Cabaret is our major charitable fundraiser for 2016, and a portion of profits will go to the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.

This original, intimate and above all entertaining evening of music and conversation features a series of interconnected musical and spoken-word vignettes dealing with contemporary issues in relation to justice, civil rights and the law. Through a combination of song and movement, music from a variety of genres, monologues and multimedia, this production will pose questions that resonate long after the lights go out.

Date: Wednesday 19 October – Saturday 22 October 2016

Time: 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm)

Venue: Ding Dong Lounge, Market Lane, Melbourne

LSS Careers Notices

1. Leo Cussen Practical Legal Training Information Session

Take a tour of the Leo Cussen Centre for Law’s training facilities in the heart of Melbourne CBD and listen to presentations about our comprehensive and highly respected Practical Training Course. Learn more about the Leo Cussen experience and how you will learn to practise law in a very professional, yet friendly and engaging environment. Our 5 month course is offered both onsite and online with a part-time option commencing in January each year (over 10 months).

You will also have the chance to meet with current Leo Cussen Centre for Law trainees, along with graduates who are now practising law. Light refreshments will be provided.

2. Boston Consulting Group – Women@BCG Event

BCG has a rich history of developing outstanding and influential female leaders. 3. Pollinate Energy Fellowship

Pollinate Energy is a social business based in Australia and India. We improve the lives of India’s urban poor by providing them with access to sustainable and affordable products that make their lives better. We also focus on engaging and inspiring the next generation of social leaders, which is where our Fellowship program comes in.

The Fellowship is a great opportunity to gain experience working in a successful social enterprise, and you have a real impact not just on the people within the slum communities but also shape the future directions of the company. The Fellowship runs from November 24 – December 16 or January 26 – February 17, 2017.

5. Australian Centre for Health Law Research Symposium PHD opportunities

The Australian Centre for Health Law Research based at the Faculty of Law, QUT, Brisbane is offering law students interested in health law an opportunity to attend the Centre’s Higher Degree Research Symposium in October 2016.

Two successful students will be offered a bursary of up to $750 to attend this event.

LSS JD Notices

1. JD Mindfulness Seminar

Mindfulness is about enhancing performance and is a skill that all law students and future lawyers can find helpful.

As future lawyers, we face workplace environments where we may be subject to long, stressful hours, distressing subject matter and high conflict situations. It is likely at some point in your career, you may experience extreme mental stress.

Brought to you by Minter Ellison, a seminar with clinical psychologist and mindfulness expert Dr Richard Chambers will be held at the Monash University Chambers on Wednesday 28 September from 6.00-7.30pm.

2. JD Trivia Night

Leo Cussen and the LSS present the JD Trivia Night.

Whether you’re a “sit back and relax” type person or can’t wait to get your competitive freak on, come along to our Annual JD Trivia Night at the Glenferrie Hotel.

Be sure to expect a night full with laughs, beer and banter.

Date: Thursday 29 September

Time: 7.00pm

Venue: Glenferrie Hotel, 324 Burwood Road, Hawthorn
