The Opportunity
This position is funded as part of an establishment grant for the Monash Assistive Technology and Society (MATS) Centre.
The MATS Centre helps people living with disabilities to lead self-directed lives.
Emerging assistive technologies have the potential to break down many of the barriers that people with disabilities face at school, university, work and in the social sphere.
Our work is guided by on-the-ground partnerships with the community to ensure we’re addressing real problems faced by real people and creating a lasting impact.

The successful candidate will support the Management Team of MATS in education-related activities. They will be expected to work closely with other parts of Monash including Monash Disability Support Services (DSS) and eSolutions. Projects include:
- Evaluating the accessibility of Monash educational software such as Moodle and developing guidelines on accessible teaching practices for Monash staff. This may involve organising and running focus groups with Monash students who identify as having a disability
- Conducting an audit of Monash educational offerings that incorporate disability and inclusion and developing best practice guidelines and materials for use by Monash teaching staff.
- Creating and running a national disability support network for university students with disabilities studying STEM disciplines.
- Contributing to the MATS Education Strategy.
The appointee will be based in the Faculty of Information Technology of Monash University at the Clayton campus in Melbourne.
Key Selection Criteria
The appointee must have:
- Extensive experience in the Australian education sector (as a student and/or teacher)
- High-level time-, self- and project-management skills, including the ability to plan, implement and execute new initiatives to deadline, with the demonstrated ability to think creatively
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, including a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Familiarity with established and developing educational software including LMS such as Moodle, Google Apps for Education, video management systems, tools for interactive learning content, and polling systems
It is desirable for the appointee to have:
- Strong links to disability communities through lived experience of disability and/or track record of successful work/co-research with people with disabilities.
