Are you a cycling enthusiast?

Do you cycle to, from or around Monash University? Do you have an interest in the infrastructure, facilities and profile of bike2cycling at Monash University? If so, the Monash community Bicycle User Group (McBUG) would like to hear from you.

McBUG promotes cycling as a viable transport alternative to, from and around Monash University and promotes the benefits of cycling and shares cycling news and events around Monash.

Calling all Mental Health First Aid trained staff

Monash mental health first aid trained staff are invited to attend a special event.

mhfa_logoThis event is a great opportunity to meet fellow MHF Aiders and hear ways to best encourage and promote positive wellbeing in your department.
Psychologist Shyama Faud will also provide a brief refresher about the important role you can play as a MHF Aider at Monash.
A light lunch will be provided

Free health checks coming to Caulfield and Clayton

All Monash staff members have the opportunity to participate in free WorkHealth health checks.

health checkThe one on one free health checks will take approximately 20 minutes and is a great opportunity to learn more about the state of your health. The checks are delivered by an independent company, your results will remain private and your employer will not receive any personal information about your health.

You will receive immediate results and advice on:
·         Blood pressure
·         Blood glucose
·         Cholesterol
·         Waist circumference
·         And more

Employee Assistance Program

eap1The University is committed to a supportive work environment and the health and wellbeing of its staff.  As part of this commitment, it provides staff with free-of-charge access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Manager Assist.

EAP is a professional, confidential counselling service available free-of-charge to all University employees and their immediate family members.  The service can be of assistance when staff are experiencing work-related, personal and/or health problems.

Manager Assist is a phone consulting service available to University Supervisors and Managers, providing practical advice and support.  The service is tailored to meet individual needs when step by step advice or a sounding board is needed.

Book now for the September school holiday program

school holsYour child will love the fun, exciting activities at MUSHP.  Activities include swimming, indoor and outdoor sport, water polo, adventure days, cinema, science, cooking, drama and music, art and craft.

Pilates, zumba or yoga class in your office

SWAP has been designed to bring on campus activity to your office! With 30 or 60 minute yoga, zumba, boxing and pilates classes from just $8 per person, get your colleagues together and organise a class at a time that suits you!

Weight Watchers at Caulfield is coming!

Caulfield staff the opportunity to enrol in a new Weight Watchers Program. With the convenience of weekly meetings on campus*, you’ll get the guidance that you need to succeed and stay on track to achieve your weight loss and lifestyle goals.

waist_measuring_tapeAbout the program: The program will consist of one weekly meeting for 13 weeks and will commence in August.
Cost: $233.35 for 13 week program (payment must be made upfront by cash or card at the first meeting).  Some private health insurance providers provide a partial refund.
How to register: Send your interest to join a program to wellbeing@monash.edu with WW Caulfield in the subject line.  Other campuses welcome to register for their own campus program.  A minimum of 12 people required for the program to proceed.

Peninsula Health Hour, new $2 Get Active lunchtime classes!

grpexFollowing the success of the Peninsula Health Hour Movers and Shakers Program, Monash Sport are now offering a weekly rotating lunchtime class.

This is a great opportunity for Peninsula staff to get out of the office and get active!  The rotating timetable means a new class each week and at only $2 per person per week, now is the time to grab your friends and get active! Classes will include pilates, cycle, yoga, zumba and much more!
When: Commencing weekly from Tuesday 16 August, 12.15pm-12.45pm
Where: Monash Sport, Peninsula
Cost: $2 per person, per class. Payment made at beginning of class

On campus cooking courses

Enrol for a short course in Indian Vegetarian Cooking or Sushi Making at the Monash Short Courses Centre.

The first day focuses on the milder north Indian cuisine whilst the second day covers traditional south Indian techniques and tastes. Participate in, and assist with, dish preparation and tasting. A step-by-step recipe book is included. Req: Apron, notepad & pen, container to take home samples. Saturdays, 10am-3.30pm, 2 sessions on 20 and 27 August. Monash staff price $133

Sushi Making: Learn the art of Sushi making in this fun, hands-on practical cooking course, food is eaten in class or can be taken home. Saturdays 10-4pm,  on 13 August, Monash staff price $105

An Alpine Adventure

Monash Sport Member Seminar – Lessons on Training from Elite Sport

As a special Monash Sport privilege to our members, we will be holding a member seminar on how to improve your training and get the best out of your fitness program.

Victorian Institute of Sport’s (VIS) Strength and Conditioning Coach Michael Crooks will lead the seminar and will be concentrating on providing members with ways to incorporate elite athlete training approaches into everyday training programs.

This exclusive seminar will show members how regular maintenance of training programs can lead to better results and bring them closer to achieving personal fitness goals. To make the most of Mr Crooks knowledge members of Monash Sport can take up Monash Sport’s unlimited health assessments and program reviews to get you on the way.

Monash Activity and Wellness Centre at Peninsula CampusMonash Activity & Wellnes Centre

Monash Sport is excited to announce the near completion of the Peninsula Fitness Centre facilities available for use by students, staff and the general public.

Designed by Harmer Architecture and constructed by Walton, the Monash Activity and Wellness Centre (MAWC) boasts a Green Star rating on the Peninsula Campus.

The new Activity and Wellness Centre will improve upon the current Monash Sport Peninsula site by offering an expanded fitness centre, new sport courts and a teaching and research facility, allowing members a unique experience.

The Activity and Wellness Centre is expected to open in early 2012 and gives Monash Sport the opportunity to continue to offer the best in facilities and programs to its members.

Monash Sport Caulfield expansion

Monash Sport will be expanding and upgrading the Caulfield Campus gymnasium in conjunction with the University’s Facilities and Services division. Group Manager of Services and Operations Brett Lavale said “the new gym will expand into a disused kitchen space and will incorporate an expanded cardio-zone and a cutting edge functional resistance training area” Works will commence in late 2011 and will be completed by early 2012. Further information will be made available as the project develops.

The James Macready-Bryan Foundation provides financial support for care and rehabilitation and a public voice for young people who suffer from Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and their families.

The Cerebral Palsy Education Centre (CPEC) provides early intervention education programs and teach children how to walk and communication when they would otherwise have been unable to.
