We had an amazing day, did you?

The Global Walk/Run went spectacularly this semester with the weather shining everyday throughout the week. We had successful events at all campuses and sites with great attendance at each location.

Hundreds of staff and students came together to enjoy Global Walk Run events across our campuses and sites last week.

At Clayton, close to 400 participants took advantage of the sunshine and met up at the Northern Plaza, to enjoy the day.

Brett Lavale, Director, Monash Sport, welcomed participants to the event, and spoke about the Universities commitment to enhancing the wellbeing and health of staff and students through events such as this. He also noted that the event formed part of the Monash Sports Day, Monash in Motion.

Ms Helen Powell, Ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation, talked to participants about the need to support the great research being done by the OCRF into early detection of ovarian cancer, and urged women to get themselves checked early.

Participants then enjoyed a fun warmup ahead of the walk or run across campus, before coming together at the end to enjoy a healthy choice lunch and festivities.

For the first time, the run was timed with first place honours going to:

  • Male Staff category: Jeffrey Wright
  • Female Staff category: Elka Mallon
  • Female Student category: Claire Baxter
  • Male Student category: Bashir Ahmad Husaini

The event, brought together by Monash Wellbeing, Monash Sport and Team Monash, is one of many activities aimed at supporting and improving the physical and mental health and wellbeing of staff and students.
