Monash unites for Men’s Health
Members of the Monash University community across Victoria joined in the GLOBAL walk/run to support men’s health week. Held on Wednesday 15 June, 2011 more than 550 participants from the Monash global community registered to complete the event.
The walk/run was held at Monash locations including Parkville, Gippsland, Berwick, Peninsula, Caulfield and Clayton campuses as well as at the Alfred Hospital and Bendigo Regional Clinical School.
On the day participants made gold coin donation to Andrology Australia, which will be used to continue the program’s men’s health education initiatives.
At the Clayton campus, the day also featured a group fitness warm up for participants, as led by cricket legend Merv Hughes, who re-enforced the message of Andrology Australia to ‘talk about your tackle, and get active for your own health’.
“The longer you say ‘nothing’ the more likely your doctor can do ‘nothing’ about it”.
At all campuses participants enjoyed a free Health Smart lunch provided with the support of Wellbeing at Monash.

All Good Bins Come in Small Packages
Question: What do Berwick Campus, Peninsula Campus, STRIP 2, the Alfred Centre, Libraries, Facilities and Services, OHS, the Equity and Diversity Centre, Monash Animal Research Platform, Human Resources, Building 64, Faculty of Law and many more workplaces at Monash have in common?
Answer: They have all adopted Bin There Done That and made real reductions in the amount of waste they send to landfill. The program involves replacing the old-style under-desk bins with a small desk-top bin, leading to an average 20% reduction in the amount of recyclable material sent to landfill.
The Office of Environmental Sustainability sponsors the program so it is free for any workplace that volunteers to participate. To find out more, including how you can get involved with our full support, please see our Bin There Done That webpage.
