Global Email

I am pleased to announce that both the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services staff – Building and Metal Trades staff and Grounds and Gardening staff) 2005 and Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services staff – Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous services staff) 2005 were certified by Senior Deputy President Watson of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission on 29 November 2005. This follows the vote of approval by staff ballot for both Agreements, conducted on 24 November 2005.

The terms of the agreement are therefore now operative, including all the various staff benefits negotiated under the Agreements, including – enhanced parental leave entitlements; and – aggregate salary increase of 24.5% over 3 years

I would once again like to thank staff of the University for their support of the agreement and I look forward to the co-operation and assistance of the LHMU, CFMEU, CEPU and NTEU in their implementation. If you have any queries regarding either of the new agreements for trades and services staff please contact the Employee Relations Branch on ext. 56996 or email: EntBarg@adm.monash.edu.au

As advised in earlier notices a staff ballot for the approval of a new enterprise agreement covering Building and Metal Trades Staff and Grounds and Gardening Staff was held on Thursday 24 November. A ballot for the new agreement covering Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous Services Staff was also held on Thursday 24 November.

The university is pleased to announce of the outcome of the ballot.
Of the votes cast for the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services staff – Building and Metal Trades staff and Grounds and Gardening staff) 2005 98.8 per cent were in favour and 1.2 per cent were against.

A unanimous vote was cast .in favour of the Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services staff – Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous services staff) 2005 agreement.

This is a very encouraging result and indicates a high degree of support for the new agreement.

The university will now file an application to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission for the certification of the new agreements. It is anticipated that the Commission will hear this application in the next few days. Although the agreement has been approved by a ballot of staff, it will not come into operation until it has been certified.

Further updates will be made available regarding the implementation phase as available.

Sent on behalf of Andrew Picouleau, Acting Director Human Resources

In my e-mail of 8 November 2005, I advised that the proposed Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff – Building and Metal Trades Staff and Grounds and Gardening Staff) 2005 and the proposed Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff – Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous Services Staff) 2005 were planned to be submitted to a ballot of trades and services staff on 23 November 2005.

For the purposes of ensuring that trades and services staff all had sufficient access to the proposed agreements prior to any vote, the ballot is now to be conducted on Thursday 24 November 2005.  All full-time, part-time, seasonal and casual trades and services staff covered by the proposed agreements and employed by the university   on the day of the ballot are eligible to vote.

Staff members at work will be allowed paid time to participate in a ballot on the Clayton, Peninsula and Gippsland campuses via a show-of-hands vote.  Below are the details of each ballot time and venue.  Note that staff are only eligible to vote once only for the particular Agreement covering their employment.  Accordingly, only building and metal trades and grounds and gardening staff may vote on the proposed Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff – Building and Metal Trades Staff and Grounds and Gardening Staff) 2005, and only catering and retail, cleaning and caretaking, and miscellaneous services staff may vote on the proposed Monash University Enterprise Agreement (Trades and Services Staff – Catering and Retail, Cleaning and Caretaking, and Miscellaneous Services Staff) 2005
