1. RU OK? Day

Monash is a proud Program Partner for R U OK?Day for 2012 and joins a list of high profile supporters including Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Libby Trickett and rugby league star Wendell Sailor. R U OK?Day is a national day of action dedicated to inspiring all Australians to ask family, friends and colleagues, Are you ok?

The R U OK? Day initiative encourages people to reach out to one another to have open and honest conversations to try to build a more connected community and reduce Australia’s high suicide rate. The University is encouraging all faculties and departments to put on local events to create as much awareness as possible, across all campuses.

2. Erase Youth Suicide

Monash University students, staff and alumni have come together to share an important message of hope, encouragement and empowerment for queer youth at risk of suicide and self-infliction.

We at Monash hope to one day erase youth suicide and this is our first step. We have said that it will get better. Now we will make it so.

Trigger warning: This video discusses issues of queerphobia, verbal abuse, family violence, self-infliction and suicide.
