General Notices

1. Animal Law

Undergraduate students who may be interested in undertaking an elective undergraduate law unit in Animal Law in 2014 or beyond are invited to send expressions of interest to Dr Joanna Kyriakakis. To do so, simply email Joanna.Kyriakakis@monash.edu with the subject line ANIMAL LAW – EXPRESSION OF INTEREST by Thursday 21 March 2013.

Postgraduate students who would be interested in a postgraduate Animal Law elective being established are also welcome to express their interest, though please identify that the interest relates to a postgraduate course.

These expressions of interest are being sought in order to support an application for the units to be offered by the Monash Law Faculty in forthcoming years.

For information on the existing undergraduate unit, see the Monash website.

2. Antipodeans Abroad

Antipodeans Abroad organises one-month volunteer placements in a number of developing countries, with projects in areas of health, education, construction, development, care work and more.

These placements (listed below) are a great way for students to immerse themselves in another culture, gain valuable personal and professional experience, and give back to a community in need.

Structured placements are available in countries such as Timor Leste, Nepal, India, Cambodia, Malaysian Borneo, the Maldives, China, Peru, Kenya, Ghana, Zambia and more.

Fluency in English is a highly sought-after skill in the developing world and university students can make a worthwhile and lasting contribution to the educational outcomes of children in these countries. We provide the structure and support; they provide the youthful passion and energy to make it happen.

See attached UniBreak Info Sheet for further details.

3. Interested in Human Rights?

For those of you starting here for the first time, welcome to Monash. For those of you returning, welcome back.

If you’re interested in human rights, then you should join the Castan Centre, a research centre based in the Law Faculty. Membership is free and you’ll get invitations to our (mostly free) public events, a copy of our bi-annual newsletter and information on other exciting human rights developments. Most importantly, the Castan Centre also has lots of opportunities for students to be involved throughout the year, including in-house internships, our amazing Global Internships, a moot competition and a careers series. You can find out about all of these programs via email if you’re a member.
