1. Ancora Imparo Leadership Program 2016

With the start of Semester 1 upon us, why not complete an application for the Vice-Chancellor’sAncora Imparo Student Leadership Program? Already started an application? We encourage you complete and submit your application by the closing date, Monday 3 August.


The program offers 40 students a great opportunity to learn about leadership, through seminars delivered at a three-day residential stay and monthly during semester, developing the skills and experiences that equip you for life.

You will hear from some of the nation’s most inspiring leaders, network with other like-minded students and have the opportunity to attend events including leadership summits, lunches and forums.


Do not be put off by the limited number of places in the program – if you’re passionate about making a positive difference in society, we want you to apply.

Successful applicants will also receive a $500 scholarship.

Apply for the Ancora Imparo program by Monday 3 August, 2015.

2. Aurora Internship Program


The Aurora Internship Program introduces law students and graduates (including mature aged) to career opportunities in native title, policy development, research and social justice, all with an Indigenous focus. The Program aims to provide assistance to under-resourced and over-worked Native Title Representative Bodies (NTRBs), Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) as well as to various other organisations working in these areas including Indigenous corporations, government bodies, community groups and other policy organisations.

4. Indonesian Enrichment and Research Program


About the program


The Indonesian Enrichment and Research Program (‘the Program’) gives students the opportunity to -participate alongside a Monash University Faculty of Law team in Indonesia to build capacity of university and civil society organisations (CSOs) family law legal aid clinics across Indonesia.


The Faculty of Law is working in partnership with the Australia Indonesia Partnership for Justice (AIPJ), CSOs and 12 Indonesian state universities to provide free legal assistance focussing on realising the rights of Indonesians to obtaining legal identity, particularly for women who are poor, vulnerable children and people with disabilities. The university and CSOs legal aid clinics teach law students and paralegals practical legal skills so that they are able to assist justice seekers to access the district and religious courts and navigate through the system of birth/marriage registration.


Students will have the opportunity to participate in clinical legal education meetings, workshops and site visits to different organisations in Indonesia.


The Program runs for 14 days in November/December 2015 (exact dates are to be confirmed) and airfare, travel and accommodation will be paid for by the Faculty of Law.

6. Menzies Foundation Scholarships in Law


The Menzies Foundation is looking for outstanding law graduates who are shaping up to be the next generation of leaders and looking to do further postgraduate study overseas.


The Menzies Foundation is offering two scholarships for studying commencing in 2016.

  • The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Scholarship in Law is for courses of study at UK universities.

  • The Sir Ninian Stephen Menzies Scholarship in International Law is for courses of study in international law at a prestigious overseas university.


Both scholarships, valued at up to $75,000.

Applications are now open and close on Monday 31 August, 2015


To be eligible, applicants must be Australian citizens and hold a 1
st class honours degree or equivalent and be planning to continue their career in Australia on completion of their study.

Candidates should not only display academic excellence but also demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and a commitment to and interest in community service.

The funds are to meet compulsory university fees and contribute towards the cost of books, equipment, living and travel.

7. S2,2015 SETU Survey Dates

Please note the following dates for when the SETU surveys open and close for your Semester 2 Units:

  • T3-57 LLM Units –  surveys open on 30 July and close on 20 Aug

  • Malaysian Units – surveys open on 31 July and close on 20 Aug

  • S2-01 LLM Units – surveys open on 27 Aug  and close on 17 Sept

  • S2-01 LLB Electives and core Units  – surveys open Oct 4 and close on 1 Nov

  • T3-58 LLM Units – surveys open 24 Aug and close on 28 Sept

  • 3 Prof Prac Units- surveys open 25 Sept and close on 16 Oct

  • T3 JD Units- surveys open 25 Oct and close on 22 Nov

  • T4-57 LLM Units – surveys open 28 Oct and close on 18 Nov

  • Can you please complete these online SETU surveys for all your S2 Units before the survey closes down – your Teacher should give you some time in class to do so. We want to hear from all sorts of students – even if you thought this Unit was OK we still want to hear from you! SETU isn’t just about  airing your complaints about your Units –we also want to hear about the things you thought worked well or were OK.

    The University will send you instructions on how to complete the SETU surveys but basically you do it via your  my.monash portal and you can access instructions online .

    8. Volunteering at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service

    Opportunities are available in 2015 at the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service for Monash Law Students.


    Wednesday Night Advice Only Service

    Applications for the Wednesday Night Advice Only Session at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service will open at Saturday 1 August, 2015 and close Saturday 8 August 2015. Late applications will not be accepted.

    Students are rostered to volunteer on Wednesday nights on a fortnightly basis from 6:00pmuntil approximately 8:30pm. Commencement date is in September 2015.

    Tuesday Night Family Law

    The Tuesday Family Law Advice Service handles matters relating to Children, Divorce and Intervention Orders.

    Students are rostered to volunteers on a Tuesday night on a fortnightly basis from 6:00pm until approximately 8:30pm. Commencement date is in September 2015.

    In each session, volunteers will:

    • Interview clients

    • Develop practical and research skills

    • Have the opportunity to learn and work under the supervision of qualified lawyers and barristers


    Applications for the April 2015 intake will
    open 1 August 2015 and close 8 August 2015. For an application form please see our website

    Saturday 1 August 2015.

    Preference will be given to students who have undertaken a Family Law Unit or have experience working/volunteer.


    9. Volunteering Expo

    : Tuesday 4 August

    Time: 11:30am to 2:30pm

    Venue: The Chalet at WinterFest Corner of Sports and Exhibition Walks, Clayton Campus


    Visit the expo and learn about on-campus and off-campus volunteering opportunities. Organisations will be looking for students to volunteer and apply their skills and knowledge. Meet representatives from not-for-profit organisations who:


    • offer volunteer opportunities

    • can speak about the merits of volunteering and what they look for.

    At the expo, you can chat with our Career Education Consultant who is available to talk about ways to improve your employability.


    Who should attend

    Students interested in helping others in our community and gaining volunteer experience. Remember to have your Monash student ID card scanned to gain points for the Battle of the Brains competition.
