1. Special General Meeting + Meet & Greet

On Monday 21 March 2016, the Monash LSS will be holding a Special General Meeting to discuss our financial reports from financial year 2015.

Following this, a meet and greet will be held to allow our newer members to get to know their committee and ask questions. Pizza will be provided!

2. The L Card

You may be wondering what the new card you received with your membership keyring is.

It is an exciting new initiative with all Victorian LSSs to create one discount card to be used across Melbourne.

On Clayton campus, the card is accepted at Artichoke & Whitebait and Taste Baguette for a 10% discount.

3. Discount Comedy Festival tickets

After selling out at Perth’s Fringe World, 3 Course Comedy debuts at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival featuring Monash law graduate Michael Shafar and current student David Rose.

Between them they have made two RAW Comedy State Finals, written for Cracked.com, hosted the TV show The Leak and failed Torts B.

LSS Careers Notices

1. What is Consulting?

The “What is Consulting Workshop” is an annual event aimed at providing an opportunity for students to learn about the management consulting profession from an industry expert.

The workshop is extremely relevant to law students, who are increasingly viewing management consulting as an alternative career path, due to its emphasis on analytical and problem solving skills.

2. Small and mid-tier firm seminar

If you have been wondering what opportunities there are for you beyond the top-tier sphere, come and engage with the culture of these specialist firms.

Speakers will include representatives from Studio Legal, Justicia, Kelly Hazell Quill and Hive Legal.

Competitions

1. Client Interview Grand Final

You are invited to witness the cream of the crop battle it out at the Client Interview Grand Final 2016.

The final will be held at Corrs Chambers Westgarth, with judges provided by the firm.

Time: 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start (light refreshments provided)

2. General Moot Registration opens Monday

The General Moot, sponsored by King Wood & Mallesons (Senior Division) and Ashurst (Junior Division) begins this April, with registration opening Monday 21 March 2016.

It is the premier mooting competition offered by the LSS. It’s like a mock trial, but the essential issue isn’t the facts – it’s the application of legal principles.

The competition tests both students’ research, formulation of legal argument and public presentation skills. Get in quick and registration will fill up fast!

1. International and Exchange Student Lunch

All International and Exchange Students are welcome to come by and get a coffee and pastries at Taste Baguette, Monash Clayton.

This is also a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other international, exchange and domestic students!

1. JD Professional Mentoring Program: apply now

Do you want to be mentored by a legal professional?

Are you a keen Monash JD student looking for guidance from some of the most brilliant legal minds in Australia?

If yes, then this program is for you! Places are limited so don’t waste time!

The JD Professional Mentoring Program is back for its third year running, following on from its huge success in previous years.

The program will commence with a Networking evening on Wednesday 25 May 2016 (Location TBC), where mentors and successful mentee applicants will be invited to meet and greet.

Registration is now open.

Students of all year levels are invited to apply, but preference will be given to penultimate year JD students.

The JD LSS office hours are as follows:

Monday: 12.00pm – 5.00pm

Tuesday: 1.00pm – 2.00pm

Wednesday: 12.00pm – 5.00pm

Thursday: 11.00am – 3.00pm

During these times memberships and event tickets can be purchased.
