1. Editorial Committee applications for the Monash University Law Review – Now open

The Monash University Law Review is the flagship academic journal of Monash Law. It is highly regarded by the legal profession and international law schools.

The 2021 Editors and Faculty Advisors are accepting applications from current LLB and JD students to join the Editorial Committee in 2021.

Committee members will receive training to complete 3–4 partial edits of an article during the course of the year. The time commitment per edit is approximately 10 hours. Involvement with the Review provides students with valuable practical skills in legal research, writing and editing, and is highly regarded by law firms and employers.

We are looking for highly committed students with strong time management skills, excellent attention to detail and close familiarity with the AGLC4. Applicants with at least one full year of study remaining will be preferred. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, those with a disability and students from under-represented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, including those supported by Monash under the Equity definitions.

To apply, please send your CV, one-page cover letter and latest unofficial academic transcript to law.review@monash.edu with the subject line ‘2021 Committee Application’. Your cover letter should outline your reasons for applying, suitability for the role and expected graduation date.

Applications will close at 5:00pm AEDT on Thursday 11 February 2021. Shortlisted students will be required to complete an editing exercise.

2. Sir John Monash Medal for Outstanding Achievement

Nominations are now open for the Sir John Monash Medal for Outstanding Achievement.

The Sir John Monash Medal for Outstanding Achievement is awarded to a student who:

  • Has completed the academic requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and is eligible to graduate;
  • Is judged to have an excellent academic record; and
  • Has demonstrated a significant commitment to advancing the University’s goals of social justice, human rights and a sustainable environment.

You can self-nominate, nominate another student or get a nomination from a Monash staff member or a member of the community. Nominations close 5:00pm AEDT Friday 26 February 2021.

All nominations must include a letter explaining the reason for the nomination and a statement from the nominee addressing how he/she meets each of the eligibility criteria. Please also provide any supporting information which could be of use to the selection committee and permission from the student to have his or her academic records released to the committee.

A selection committee will review the nominations and make a recommendation to the Dean of Law, Monash University.

The winner will be announced at the faculty prizes ceremony. The medal will also be awarded at their graduation ceremony and included on their official University transcripts.

3. PCL Lawyers Legal Scholarship 2021

Are you currently studying a Bachelor of Laws at university and you are in or heading into your final year?

PCL Lawyers is offering two Law students with a WAM of 65 or more in their penultimate or final year a grant of $2000 each to assist them through the final stage of their degree. One grant will be prioritised for a student studying in Victoria.

Applications close Tuesday 30 March.
