Mildura school students look at career in medicine

Mildura RCS introduced prospective students to the skills lab at their May information evening.
Mildura Regional Clinical School enjoyed an excellent turnout at its second annual information evening for years 10, 11 and 12 secondary school students, together with their families and carers.
More than 70 people, including more than 30 students, attended the evening to hear from Monash staff and students about the pathways and possibilities that Monash University offers school students who would like to pursue a career in medicine.
Speakers included Head of School Professor Judi Walker who gave an overview of the School Of Rural Health and its vision, and Associate Professor Fiona Wright who spoke about the Mildura Clinical School and its role within the ERC (Extended Rural cohort).
Karyn Asher from Clayton Admissions Department explaining the admission pathways and a group of current medical students spanning Years 3, 4 and 5 were on hand to talk firsthand about their Monash experiences.
Monash staff, students, family and the school students mingled over supper before heading off to the simulation centre to experience the wonders of SimMan, and take part in a range of procedural tasks under the guidance of current medical students and staff.
It proved a wonderful evening of publicity, networking and sharing of information, but the most important aspect of the night was putting the school and its facilities on display while identifying 31 potential medical students within the Sunraysia region.
