Inaugural Premuster at Bairnsdale

International visitors were guests of the Monash School of Rural Health East Gippsland last month for a Premuster conference.

The Premuster was held over two days prior to the fourth 2014 Muster at Uluru in the Northern Territory.

The 2014 Muster was attended by international and Australian participants interested in rural medical education including those from SRH. Partners in presenting the 2014 Muster were James Cook University, Federation of Rural Australian Medical Educators (FRAME), Training for Health Equity Network (THEnet) and Consortium of Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (CLIC).

SRH East Gippsland director, Dr David Campbell, organised this first Premuster in Bairnsdale around clinical reasoning.

Dr Campbell together with Ian Couper from South Africa and Lucie Walters from Flinders University are now putting together a publication looking at clinical reasoning and how students develop clinical reasoning.

During the two-day Premuster, guests were taken on a boat trip of the Gippsland Lakes with dinner near the Lakes. A local paediatrician gave a talk about environmental issues surround the Lakes.
