1. 2010 Annual Essay Competition in European and EU Studies

The Monash European and EU Centre is pleased to announce its 2010 Annual Essay Competition in European and EU Studies.

The competition is open to all students at Monash University. Honours and postgraduate students in the Faculties of Arts, Law, and Business and Economics are particularly encouraged to apply.

Essays should focus on recent developments in Europe and the European Union and should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words in length.

A first prize of $500 and a second prize of $300 will be awarded.

The essays will be assessed by a panel of judges selected by the Monash European and EU Centre.

Winning essays will be considered for publication in the Monash European and EU Centre’s new electronic working papers series, or in a suitable academic journal or book.

2. Semester 2 Unit Evaluations

Just a reminder that Semester 2 Unit Evaluations are coming up soon and we would really appreciate your participation in the Unit Evaluation process for each of the Units in which you are enrolled.  

We evaluate most of our Units paper based, so this means that a short survey will be administered in your class. Your feedback about your Units is taken very seriously and the Chief Examiners use this information to continually improve the quality of the Units. 

We would really appreciate any constructive criticism about how we can make the Units even better, plus of course any positive feedback about why you thought your Units were really good!

3. Student Writing Competition

The EDO and Maddocks invite tertiary students to submit an article for publication in the EDO’s national legal journal IMPACT!The topic of the next edition of IMPACT! will be Consumer Protection which will deal with issues relating to green claims and products.

Entries must relate to the topic of the upcoming edition (Consumer Protection). Articles should focus on Australian law and policy but use international examples where applicable. The minimum word count is 2,500 and the maximum is 3,000.

 The winning entry will receive $500 and be published in the upcoming edition of IMPACT! Publisher reserves the right to edit entries.

 The closing date for applications is Monday 15 November, 2010.

4. Volunteering Opportunity at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service

Are you a first to third year law student looking for the opportunity to gain some invaluable practical legal experience?

Applications are now open for the opportunity to become a volunteer at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service (located next to Monash Clayton Campus at 60 Beddoe Avenue).

What is it all about?

You will be part of the volunteer night service team which provides advice to clients with a wide range of legal problems.

You will be rostered to attend on Wednesdays nights on a fortnightly basis from 6 pm.
 
You will interview clients.

You will work under the supervision of a qualified lawyer.

Successful volunteers will volunteer for a six month period starting at the beginning of November with a break between Wednesday 15 December, 2010 and Sunday 2 January, 2011.
