2. 2017 Just Leadership Program – applications now open

Applications are now open for the prestigious 2017 Just Leadership Program, an initiative of the Monash Law Students’ Society. Both undergraduate and postgraduate Monash Law students are invited to apply.

The Program consists of Q&A seminars on social justice issues with high-profile guest speakers, allowing participants of the Program to tap into the professional experience and expertise of the speakers.

Participants of the Program are also allocated into small groups to undertake a group project in relation to one of the seminar topics, allowing participants to contribute their leadership skills and demonstrate their commitment to and passion for a particular area of social justice.

Applications will close on Friday 24 March at 6.00pm.

3. Federal Court – seeking volunteers

The Victorian Bar is looking for volunteers to play the role of witnesses for the Advocacy Assessments sessions at the Federal Court.

The Advocacy Assessments sessions have been scheduled for the following dates:

  • Thursday 16 March
  • Tuesday 21 March
  • Thursday 23 March
  • Tuesday 28 March
  • Tuesday 4 April
  • Thursday 6 April

Time: 8.30am-4.00pm

Venue: The Federal Court, 305 William Street, Melbourne 3000

You will be given a copy of the materials including a witness statement which summarises your evidence. You will need to be familiar with the facts and be prepared to give your evidence and be cross-examined.

It is an opportunity to see some experienced advocates at work.

4. King’s Student Law Review (King’s College London) – call for submissions

Submissions are welcome from all current Law students for the upcoming issue of the King’s Student Law Review.

The KSLR is a King’s College London publication, completely edited by students.

Whether you’re a Law student at undergraduate or postgraduate level, you are invited to submit an article of between 5,000 to 7,000 words by Sunday 30 April 2017.

5. Queer 101: training for students

Want a greater understanding of diverse genders and sexualities? And empowerment to make positive change in support of LGBTIQ people in your community?

Register today for Queer 101.

The Queer 101 training covers the basics of the LGBTIQ acronym. It explains the differences between sex, sexuality, and gender identity and expression. Additionally, this valuable training looks at some of the key issues faced by the LGBTIQ community.

6. SummerFest 2017: Extend your summer!

Extend your summer with a #MonashSummer!

From 13-19 March, SummerFest at Monash returns to bring more good times to campus:

  • Summer Fiesta – our international food night. Free family-friendly event with food stalls and trucks, rides, a kids’ zone, and live entertainment.
  • Full Moon Party – a party under the stars with Monash DJs.
  • Twilight Cinema – free outdoor movie night at Northern Plaza.
  • Dive In Cinema – keep cool in the Doug Ellis pool while we screen Finding Dory poolside.
  • Culture Carnival – Caulfield’s lunchtime SummerFest celebration.

7. Volunteer Opportunities at Monash Oakleigh Legal Service

Applications for volunteer positions at the Monash Oakleigh Legal Service close Sunday 5 March at 10:00pm.

Law students are rostered to volunteer on either Tuesday or Wednesday nights to be part of a team that provides advice to clients experiencing a range of legal problems, including divorce and intervention orders and general legal issues.
