1. NSW Law Reform Commission – 2017 Winter Internship Program

The NSW Law Reform Commission operates a winter internship program for law students in their final year of study.

While the opportunity is unpaid, it does provide access to a range of professional development opportunities, including working with our Commissioners.

2. LSS Trivia Night

We have a limited number of tables to our annual Trivia Night still available!

3. Michael Shafar – Jewish-ish at MICF

2015 Monash Law grad Michael Shafar is debuting his show Jewish-ish at the Melborurne International Comedy Festival!

Since graduating Michael has performed on SBS’s RAW Comedy, represented Australia in the Laugh Factory’s Funniest Person in the World competition, hosted Channel 31’s The Leak and is currently writing for Channel 10’s The Project.

Jewish-ish explores Michael’s time doing Law, his clerkship experience at a commercial firm and his transition from Law into comedy.

4. Law Council of Australia’s Inaugural ‘Baxt Prize’

The Business Law Section of the Law Council of Australia (BLS) is excited to announce the creation of the Baxt Prize.

Offered for the first time in 2017, the Baxt Prize is named in honour of Professor Bob Baxt AO, among many other things, a founding member of the BLS. The 2017 Baxt Prize will be awarded for a research paper of outstanding quality which is based on the topic of ‘human rights and business law’.

The winner will receive a fully funded package (registration, flights, accommodation, etc) to attend the International Bar Association’s annual conference in Sydney in October 2017. Anyone under the age of 35 is eligible to submit a paper.

1. LSS Expert Panel – Litigation & Dispute Resolution

With clerkship applications around the corner, this is an opportunity to hear first-hand from partners about Litigation and Dispute Resolution.

The interactive panel will allow you to ask partners and graduates about their work and also gain insight into the inner workings of individual firms, with networking opportunities to follow the panel presentations.

In a first for the LSS, we are excited to announce that one of the panels will be a sit-down breakfast held at Eureka 89, allowing you time to mingle with firm representatives in a casual and intimate manner, while taking in the views of the Melbourne skyline over a hot breakfast.

This panel will be ticketed at a price of $20 per person.
