Professor Bryan Horrigan, Dean of the Monash Law Faculty, is delighted to invite you to the inaugural Dean’s Gala Dinner.

Guests will hear from The Honourable Robert French AC, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia 2008-2017. His Honour is the Distinguished Professional in Residence at the Faculty of Law.

2. In Conversation with The Hon. Robert French AC

He was Australia’s twelfth Chief Justice of the High Court, as well as a celebrated advocate for indigenous rights.

The LSS are thrilled to announce the HONOURABLE ROBERT FRENCH AC will participate in a Q&A at a lecture on Wednesday 9 August 2017, exclusive for law students.

His Honour has held a distinguished career and often speaks to a packed-out theatre, where students have been captivated by his presence and words of wisdom. He will provide fascinating insights about what it is like to be the leader of the highest court in the land and how the law plays a part in the wider society.

Registration for this event will be open between 9:00am 28 July – 5:00pm 4th August.

3. The Hon. Robert French AC delivers the 12th Fiat Justitia Lecture

The Hon. Robert French AC, former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia (2008-2017), will present the 12th Fiat Justitia Lecture, entitled ‘Judge Bridlegoose, Randomness and Rationality in Administrative Decision-Making’.

Justice French is Distinguished Professional in Residence at the Faculty of Law in August 2017.

5. Justice Geoffrey Nettle on Hellenic contributions to the law

6. Silent Disco: pump up the volume for mental health

We’ve all noticed how our moods changes depending on music we listen to.  Crank up the volume on a high energy track to get you motivated and feeling a bit brighter about the day, something a little more chilled to relax or maybe a touch of classical music for focus.

During Winterfest the Mental Health Champions and Non Residential Colleges invite you to celebrate the connection between music and mental health at our Mental Health Silent Disco.

7. What do family lawyers really think of FDR?

In 2015 Susan Hamilton-Green surveyed about 110 practitioners to explore what family lawyers really thought about Family Dispute Resolution. Some of the responses were surprising.

It showed that FDR is a significant aspect of advice given by family lawyers, and that they balanced many factors when advising and directing their clients to FDR. It also highlighted various areas important for FDRPs in their ongoing relationships with family lawyers.

Susan Hamilton-Green is a family lawyer and a specialist in Family Law (LIV) since 1990. She is a trained arbitrator and conflict coach and provides mediation training, coaching, and supervision.
