Kickstart Transition to Tertiary Study Program
The Kickstart Transition to Tertiary Study Program has been developed for current and prospective tertiary and further education students who are blind or have low vision.
- Prepare yourself for further study.
- Find out about on and off-campus services.
- Learn about the Disability Discrimination Act and your rights as a student.
- Improve your writing and study skills for assignments.
- Learn about new adaptive technology.
- Meet other students and professionals who are blind or have low vision who can be of assistance to you.
- Learn strategies for completing study with a view to improving employment prospects.
Thursday, 13th and Friday 14th February 2014.

And there will be a 2 hour teleconference as part of the program for those who live too far away.
This is a great opportunity to make sure you have a handle on tertiary study and what will be expected of you. And to get advice on supports available for students with a vision impairment or other disability and how best to make sure you are receiving them so as not to fall behind or struggle with your studies.
We will also have the involvement of two students studying Education who are also vision impaired assisting to run the program. And the program will also involve a workshop on Advocacy and Rights in Tertiary Education presented conjointly by Blind Citizens Australia and Vision Australia. It is this workshop which will be presented on Friday 14 February 10 am to 12 noon (Australia Eastern Daylight savings Time) via teleconference as well as face to face. We will endeavour to match new tertiary students with a mentor who has studied a similar course, so if you would like us to do this please let us know when you register what you will be studying and if you are attending in person please let us know whether you have any dietary requirements.
