Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards 2016

Professor Margaret Gardner, President and Vice-Chancellor, welcomes nominations for the 2016 Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards. The Vice-Chancellor’s Diversity and Inclusion Awards recognise members of the Monash University community (staff and students) who have made an outstanding contribution to supporting diversity and fostering inclusion for:
  • Indigenous Australians
  • People with a disability, medical or mental health condition
  • Women in disciplines, professions, or roles in which they are under-represented
  • People with family or carer responsibilities
  • People from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • People who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, or queer (LGBTIQ)
  • Students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Students from rural or remote areas
Monash University has a total of $15,000 (with individual amounts of up to $5,000 per award) to recognise programs and initiatives that support the ethos of the Focus Monash Strategic Plan 2015 – 2020 commitment to seek talented students and staff, irrespective of social or economic circumstances and build a connected community of students and staff in a diverse university that is deeply engaged with the wider community
Nominations should focus on one or more of the following areas:
  • Inclusive education: Developing teaching practice, curricula or learning environments that foster inclusion for a diverse range or students
  • Inclusive workplace: Building and supporting inclusion and diversity at work, fostering inclusive teams and positively influencing workplace culture
  • Connection and belonging: Enhancing cohesion and understanding in a diverse community for students and/or staff
  • Community outreach: Engaging with the wider community to encourage participation by disadvantaged groups, promote inclusion and support diversity
The awards are open to staff and students of Monash University including:
  • Academic and professional staff (full-time, part-time, casual and sessional)
  • Monash University students (full-time or part-time)
  • Group projects (team, committee or work unit)
Nominations close Friday 19 August.
