University students with disability will have the opportunity to work with Melbourne Stars cricket team on match days, and if they would like, in the office of Cricket Victoria.

Some benefits include but aren’t limited to Player Interaction, Tickets, Stars Uniform and Reference letter at completion of Internship.  This is a great opportunity if you’ve been looking to gain experience in the sports industry.

Are you a university student with disability looking for paid work experience that counts?

The Australian Network on Disability (AND) is offering students with disability the opportunity to intern with leading and forward-thinking organisations across a range of disciplines as part of Stepping Into.

What is Stepping Into?

Stepping into is a paid internship program designed for university students with disability who want to gain paid, hands-on work experience in their chosen field of study. Students benefit by gaining valuable experience in their desired field of work, and by having the opportunity to develop professional networking and social skills.

About the Internships

Stepping Into internships are offered across a range of industries in both the public and private sector.

Internships are available for students around the country studying Finance, Law, Social Sciences, IT, Science, Engineering and many more. For a full list of disciplines covered, please visit our website.

Internships will generally last 4 to 8 weeks (with the opportunity for flexible work hours to manage your disability or other commitments).

Am I eligible?

• Stage of study: final or second last year of university
• Discipline of Study: All are encouraged to apply
• Citizenship status: Australia Citizen, Permanent Resident or International student with full working rights in Australia

AND accepts applications from students with all types of disability including but not limited to physical disability, mental health conditions, sensory impairments and immunological conditions.

Over the upcoming weeks, we will be facilitating information sessions online. If you have applied, or are considering applying, for the Summer 2018/19 Stepping Into internship program we encourage you to dial in to one of the sessions.

The presentation will offer an overview of the Stepping Into program and top tips on Job Applications, Preparing for Interviews & How to Network.

All applicants should attend one of the following sessions in order to best prepare for the next steps of the Stepping Into process.

Webinar: Panel Discussion Focused on Supporting Graduates with Disability Toward Career Success

You will hear from:

• University of Tasmanian Graduate Sam Flood, who participated in a social media campaign called ‘Let’s find Sam an internship‘ and is now working as a Pharmacist in Melbourne,
• Griffith University Equity Practitioner Jeremy Muir, working on a project to improve the
  internal employment of PwD,
• Mylestones Employment Job Development Officer Natalie Searson, who has spent the last
  12 months supporting graduated and graduating students with disabilities in their career
  search,
• UOW Career Counsellor Kate Carroll, who specialises in supporting students from equity
  groups, including students with disability,

The panel will answer your questions and share their ideas and thoughts about how to work with students with disability to transition successfully into graduate employment.

Graduates with Disability are behind their peers when finding employment. 23.5% of graduates with disability are unemployed and looking for full-time work compared to their peers of 11.3%, and graduates with disability are more likely to report that the job they are in does not fully utilise their skills or education. In 2017, the overall employment rate for students who identify as having a disability slid back by 0.8% from 2016, while their peers without disability moved forward by 0.1%.

The NDCO program is committed to improving the employment outcomes of graduates with disability. NDCOs based in QLD, SA, NSW and TAS have been running a pilot program in partnership with local universities and Disability employment service providers called the University Specialist Employment program (USEP) for the last year.

2018 – 2019 Access RK Seasonal Clerkship Program

For the 2018 – 2019 Seasonal Clerkship Program, Russell Kennedy Lawyers is offering a seasonal clerkship position to a student with disability. The program will provide the successful applicant an opportunity to showcase their skills and gain experience in a legal environment.

The Access RK Seasonal Clerkship will run in conjunction with Russell Kennedy’s Seasonal Clerkship Program, with the successful applicant enjoying all the benefits of Russell Kennedy’s Seasonal Clerkship Program.

To be eligible for the Access RK Seasonal Clerkship, in addition to meeting all the eligibility criteria for Russell Kennedy’s Seasonal Clerkship Program, the successful applicant will be a person with disability in either their penultimate or final year of their law degree.

RK does not require applicants to share specific information about their disability/impairment, however if selected for an interview, to confirm eligibility, they require applicants to:

• provide a letter from their university’s disability support services unit confirming their registration with disability services; or
• if not registered with their university’s disability support services unit, applicants selected for an interview must provide a letter from a registered medical practitioner confirming their eligibility.

Whilst RK does not require applicants to share specific information about their disability/impairment, they nevertheless encourage applicants to share any information which they feel will help to better support them, including to be supported through the application process. Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence.

Become a Mentor for Women with Disabilities

• Would you like to support a woman with a disability in your local community to further develop their leadership skills?
• Are you interested in sharing your professional and personal skills and experiences, and to grow and develop in the process?
• Would you like to improve your skills in listening, modelling and leading by mentoring a woman with a disability in your local community?
• Would you like to share and impart knowledge of your own experience of being a woman with disability?

Women with Disabilities Victoria (WDV) are seeking women who are interested in supporting women with disabilities who wish to step up in their own communities.

The mentoring program will complement the Enabling Women program, a successful leadership program for women with disabilities. Mentors will commit to 6 one-hour sessions. Contact can be a mixture of face-to-face, phone and email. A mentoring handbook is provided.

Women with disabilities from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, culturally diverse and migrant and refugee backgrounds are highly encouraged to apply!
