Women with Disabilities Victoria- Leadership Program

`Enabling Women’ is a 4 day leadership program for women wanting to take the lead in their communities. Covering:

  • Getting to know you
  • The Social Model of Disability Self-Identity
  • Human Rights
  • Communication
  • Advocacy Parts 1 and 2
  • Leadership Evolution

Eligibility: A commitment to being a voice for women with a disability.

Where: Women’s Health Victoria Inc. Level 8, 255 Bourke St Melbourne

YDAS has teamed up with youth radio station Syn Media (http://syn.org.au/) to run a new disability advocacy focused radio show in the second half of this year.

There will be broadcasting training for participants and then a chance for the new team of broadcasters to be on air in a brand new show from July to December 2013

Stepping into… is a paid internship program specifically designed for students with disability, who want to get paid, hands-on work experience in an industry that is relevant to their degree and chosen field of study.

This winter, some of the members of the Australian Network on Disability (AND) are offering paid internships through the Stepping into program. Internships are currently offered in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth and across disciplines of Law, Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Human Resources, Policy, Engineering, Architecture & Design, IT, Communications and Marketing .

Some of the participating organisations include:

Students registered with the Monash Disability Liaison Unit are offered a limited number of funded places for the Willing and Able Mentoring (WAM) Program. WAM matches mentors with students with disabilities within the professional area the student is interested in.

In the twelve years WAM Program has been operating, mentees report that through their participation they have:

• gained confidence and clarity about their career direction

• valuable contacts in the professional area

• increased skills in developing their resume

• improved interview skills

• developed ideas about solving disability related challenges

Some mentees gained work-placements and others have even gained a job.

The WAM Program involves:

• an induction workshop describing what the WAM Program is all about, communication and networking skills, and ideas about disclosure of disability;

• a series of 8, one to two hour mentoring sessions in the mentor’s workplace;

• debriefing and certificate presentation event at the conclusion of the program.

Stepping into… is a paid internship program specifically designed for students with disability, who want to get paid, hands-on work experience in an industry that is relevant to their degree and chosen field of study.

This winter, ANZ Bank are working with the Australian Network on Disability (AND), offering paid internships across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth through their ANZ Institutional Internships – Abilities Program

ANZ are looking for talented Commerce, Banking, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Engineering, Science or Law students.
A double or master’s degree is desirable, but not essential.
