 AWETISM 2020 Virtual Expo – Student Presenter Opportunity

Seeking Autistic Young People To Showcase Their Passions, Interests or Talents!

A cornerstone of all of our work at I CAN is the importance of celebrating Autistic passions and interests. These are the things that bring us joy, comfort and allow the world to see what Autistics CAN do.

In the coming days we will be announcing the details of our AWETISM 2020 Virtual Expo (scheduled for Friday, 20 November), an online version via the event platform Vfairs of our annual flagship event that showcases the in-depth knowledge and talents of our young people.

The AWETISM 2020 Expo will be our biggest and best I CAN event to date!

We are putting out an early call for Autistic young people across Australia (ages 9-20) to express interest in delivering a (pre-recorded) brief online presentation about their particular passion, unique theory or talent.

In the past, we’ve had young people showcase everything from interpretative dance to singing to in-depth knowledge of sport, gaming, transport systems…and more!

PLEASE NOTE: Presentations will be pre-recorded via Zoom prior to the event guided by an I CAN team member. On the day you will still be able to view your talk live and be apart of the short Q&A following your talk.

Your presentation will also be available to view via Vfairs for one month following the event.

We are especially keen to have young people from our I CAN schools and online mentoring programs take part, but the invitation is open to Autistic young people nationwide.

FREE Graduate Recruitment Webinar

You are welcome to attend this webinar to learn about a high-level graduate recruitment program for students/graduates living with a disability.

 Details:

• In this one-hour webinar (plus an additional 15-min live Q&A), you will learn about the successful GradWISE program continuum, the support and advocacy available with regards to disclosure to employers
• You will also hear from Ernst & Young (EY), a leading pro-disability confident employer discuss the importance of disclosure, how the information is used i.e. support during the application process and once employed. EY will also provide a sneak peek all-access pass into their application process and what makes an applicant successful.
• You will also hear from a recent Monash University graduate linked to GradWISE employed as a graduate by the Victorian Public Sector Commission. She will be talking about her application journey, what made her competitive, her experience with disclosure and what has made her successful over the last 6 months.

Diversity and Inclusion Week Event 2020

Stepping Into Internship Applications for Summer 2020/21 are Open in September! 

Australian Network on Disability’s Stepping Into is a paid internship program for students with disability in their final or penultimate year of study.

The program is open to students from all disciplines, and accepts applications from Australian citizens, permanent residents and international students with full working rights in Australia.

Launching Monash bSafe to Our Community

This week, Community Safety and Security (CSS) in partnership with Respectful Communities will be launching the new Monash bSafe app to the Monash University community. The app launch coincides with Respect.Now.Always week, and the app itself replaces the former RNA app.

• Monash bSafe has been two years in the making. The app is endorsed by both the Monash RNA Committee and the Vice-Chancellor’s Group.

The app is designed to link students and staff with support services, resources and safety information. It includes links to essential services within the CSS portfolio, including Security phone numbers and a form to report problem behaviour to SCU.

• Please download the app from the Apple or Google Play app stores and take a look for yourself!

Specialisterne Australia offers an alternative pathway for people on the autism spectrum to connect with employers who recognise and value the contributions and talents that individuals on the spectrum can bring to their organisations.

They offer a tailored workshop and assessment program whereby candidates can demonstrate their skills and abilities in a practical, hands-on environment directly to employers.

Specialisterne is excited to be partnering with Westpac once again following their successful initial Tailored Talent program in 2017. As such, Specialisterne is seeking to attract the skills and abilities of prospective individuals on the autism spectrum who can contribute to Westpac’s workforce.

• Must be aged 18 years or older
• Must have a diagnosis of autism (including Autism spectrum disorder, Asperger’s disorder, Autistic disorder, or PDD-NOS)

The following experience or ability to demonstrate these skills will be highly regarded however they are not essential:

• A strong interest or ability to learn any of the following: Data Analytics, Software Testing, Automation, Application Development, Cyber Security, IT Systems Administration, Business Analysis, Financial Analysis, Fraud, Criminology, Risk
• An understanding or ability to learn software, concepts and toolsets such as – SAS, Alteryx, Splunk, Tableau, advanced Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Jira, SharePoint, VBA, SQL, Selenium, UFT, Linux, Unix and Windows Server, bash / scripting and programming languages such as Python, Perl, etc
• Motivated, focused and strong attention to detail
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Obtained a TAFE Qualification or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Business, Software Development, Cyber Security, Finance or related discipline or have real-world experience in the same or similar fields

NAB’s Summer Intern Program is designed to back you in this early stage of your career, to help you develop the skills, knowledge and network with which to build an exciting and inspiring career, no matter where it takes you.

NAB’s recruitment process is accessible to all, and they want all students to be at their best and receive a fair assessment.

The NAB Workplace Adjustment Guidance Notes detail their commitment to providing adjustments at every stage of the recruitment process for people with disability, whilst their Accessibility Action Plan is aimed at removing barriers and maximising employment prospects for people with disability.

How NAB’s Summer Intern Program works

This year NAB’s Summer Intern Program involves virtual Employability and Future Skills development workshops combined with an immersive business placement.

• You’ll not only gain insights into the banking and finance industry, but you’ll also learn more about your own working style with a personal action plan.
• You’ll be provided career coaching to determine what you want from your career and how to achieve it.
• At the end of NAB’s program, you’ll have the opportunity to apply and receive an early offer for NAB’s Graduate Program the following year.

Summer Intern Program dates

You’ll need to be free to commence full time employment for 7 weeks (exclusive of 3 weeks unpaid leave over the festive period).

Summer Intern Program Streams

• Business & Private Banking – You’re invited to join NAB – Australia’s largest business bank. With NAB’s focus on small to medium businesses and investors they’re passionate about providing specialised financial products, market insights and advice to help our customers thrive across different industries.  You’ll have a varied learning experience with exposure to business lending products, financial analysis, account transactions and customer service.
• Corporate & Institutional Banking (Financial Markets) – NAB’s Financial Markets team utilise sales, economic and quantitative research to provide local and offshore customers access to both traded and illiquid markets, including fixed income, money markets, credit, derivatives, currencies and commodities. This includes trading between all types of banks, superannuation funds and domestic and multi-national companies.
• Corporate & Institutional Banking (Corporate Finance & Client Coverage) – NAB’s Corporate Finance and Client Coverage teams work together to finance corporate growth, provide specialised financing solutions, create value through working capital and enable global transactions. In these teams you’ll work with industry specialists to provide solutions for our customers in their relevant markets.

The Application Process

To be eligible for NAB’s Summer Intern Program you MUST:

• Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident at the time of submitting your application
• Be in your penultimate (second last) year of your undergraduate/postgraduate degree and free to commence full time employment by January 2022
• Commit to and be available for full time employment over the 7-week program (exclusive of unpaid holiday leave from 24 Dec to 8 Jan)
• Complete the online application and if successful you’ll progress to an online test, video interview and assessment centre. Assessment centres are held by stream and this year will be 100% virtual, meaning you can participate from any location.
