Paid Internship Opportunities With PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC)

Australian Network on Disability (AND) are partnering with PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC) to attract successful candidates who want to gain meaningful work experience within Assurance this summer. PwC are pioneers within their field and are taking a leadership role in providing opportunities to students with disability to access internship opportunities.

Students studying in all disciplines can apply, but must be in their penultimate year of their degree, and show a genuine passion and suitability to work in Assurance. PwC are known for delivering quality in assurance, tax and advisory services, but their portfolio is growing all the time with opportunities in new markets and new ways to serve existing markets.

PwC’s summer internship program typically runs between November and February for a period of six weeks.

To be eligible:

  • Be in your second/penultimate year of study;

Kickstart your Career with WAM!

Students registered with Monash Disability Services can apply for a limited number of funded places for the Willing and Able Mentoring (WAM) Program, now run by Diversity Recruitment and Training. WAM matches mentors with students with disability within the professional area the student is interested in.

In the 13 years the WAM Program has been operating, mentees report that through their participation they have:

  • gained confidence and clarity about their career direction
  • valuable contacts in the professional area
  • increased skills in developing their resume
  • improved interview skills
  • developed ideas about solving disability related challenges

Some mentees gained work-placements and others have even gained a job.

The WAM Program involves:

  1. Induction session (via phone or in person) detailing the program
  2. A series of mentoring meetings in the mentor’s workplace
  3. A program manual to guide the mentor and mentee through the program, plus full support from our staff
  4. Debriefing and certificate presentation event at the conclusion of the program.

How to apply for the half-year intake in 2014

If you are registered with Disability Services and wish to apply for a funded place in the WAM Program, please complete the Expression of Interest Form, which will be sent to: disabilityservices@monash.edu .

You may also post, fax, or drop off the form to the main Disability Services Office at Level 1, Building 55, Clayton Campus, Monash University VIC 3800; fax number: 9905 5517.

*NOTE: all applications for funding to Disability Services must be received by close of business, Wednesday 25 June, 2014. No WAM Mentorships for Monash students will be funded without prior approval by Disability Services.

Stepping Into Applications now open for IBM paid internships!

Stepping Into… Internships in Geelong!

Department of Social Services Graduate Program

Stepping In… Internship deadlines!

Stepping In… interships offer programs designed specifically for university students with disabilities.

Current deadlines and upcoming internships:

  • Applications for the 2015 Department of Agriculture Graduate Development Program opened last week and will close on 14 May 2014 at 2.00pm (AEST).
  • Applications for the 2015 Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) Entry Level Professional Program are not yet open but will open in due course. These programs are suitable for students who have already graduated or are completing their final year of study this year.

New funding opportunity for emerging young leaders in the disability sector – International participation project

Grants are now open for emerging young leaders in the disability sector to attend the 7th session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in New York from 10 – 12 June 2014. This is a unique professional opportunity and young delegates will be provided with training and mentoring to build their capacity to participate at the UN. These grants will provide an important opportunity for the next generation of young disability rights advocates to represent the Australian disability sector at the UN.

This program:

1.  Begins with a training workshop in Sydney on 22 May 2014. The workshop topics include:

  • What is the COSP? What is the role of civil society at the COSP?
  • What will I do at the COSP?
  • What will I need to prepare for the COSP?

2.  The delegates will fly to New York where they will network with some of the key players in the international disability movement, learn about strategic advocacy and its application to domestic advocacy and visit important UN organisations.

3. Go on to attend the civil society forum (date TBC) and the Conference of States Parties from 10 – 12 June 2014 at the UN.

4. When the delegates come back there will be a post-event debrief in late June to help incorporate learnings into disability advocacy at the national level

The theme of the COSP will be advised as soon as it becomes available.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for young emerging leaders in the disability sector. Preferably, the young applicant will be between 18 – 30 years of age. DPOs and DAOs are strongly encouraged to nominate young persons with a disability.

How much funding is provided?

The Commission will provide grants for the young delegates to attend the training workshop, the COSP and the post-event debrief. Applicants are required to submit a budget including a breakdown of costs such as food, accommodation and flights.

Successful delegates are encouraged to raise some funds from sponsorship.

DPOs/DAOs must supply the following information in the application:

  • Information about the organization
  • Name of organization
  • How the delegate’s participation will positively impact on the work of the DPO/DAO
  • Information about the young applicant
  • Name
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Does the applicant have a disability?
  • Email
  • Phone number
  • Qualifications (if any)
  • Relevant achievements or academic awards
  • Relevant experience in the disability sector
  • What the applicant thinks they can contribute to the event
  • The applicant’s knowledge of the UN process, the COSP and theme of the COSP (if available)
  • Preparation and post event reporting plans
  • Budget
  • Proposed funding sought
  • Other sources of funding available

Selection process

The delegates will be selected by a Selection Committee on the basis of the written application. Successful applicants will be notified in early May.

Criteria for selection

Applicants must be nominated by a DPO/DAO.

Applicants should preferably be between 18 to 30 years of age.

Preference will be given to applicants with a disability.

The Selection Committee will seek to ensure a gender balance in the delegation

Applicants must be able to attend the pre-training workshop in May, the COSP in June and the post-event debrief in late June. Applicants must also be willing to undertake relevant post-event activities.
