Welcome back to 2014!

Friday, January 31st, 2014

It’s been a long time between drinks, and we hope you all had a brilliant holiday break soaking up the sun, globe-trotting,  spending some time with your friends or whatever it is you got up to.

If you are a newly registered DLU student or thinking about registering with us, this is our blog, where we bring you news and events from around the internet that might be of interest to our students. Here you’ll also find specifically related DLU news, which may be relevant to you.

While enrolments are only slowly beginning, and you’re probably only just starting to think a little bit about the semester that lies ahead, the Some of Our Parts blog is starting to get on track with 2014.

That’s all we’ve got for now, just drop in again soon – and don’t forget to keep in touch! We love when our students submit stories and events.

Thursday, 13th and Friday 14th February 2014.
Kooyong Training room
454 Glenferrie Road Kooyong (next to Kooyong train station).

And there will be a 2 hour teleconference as part of the program for those who live too far away.

This is a great opportunity to make sure you have a handle on tertiary study and what will be expected of you. And to get advice on supports available for students with a vision impairment or other disability and how best to make sure you are receiving them so as not to fall behind or struggle with your studies.

We will also have the involvement of two students studying Education who are also vision impaired assisting to run the program. And the program will also involve a workshop on Advocacy and Rights in Tertiary Education presented conjointly by Blind Citizens Australia and Vision Australia. It is this workshop which will be presented on Friday 14 February 10 am to 12 noon (Australia Eastern Daylight savings Time) via teleconference as well as face to face. If you can only make the teleconference please reply to this email and I will send you the telephone details closer to the date.

We will endeavour to match new tertiary students with a mentor who has studied a similar course, so if you would like us to do this please let us know when you register what you will be studying and if you are attending in person please let us know whether you have any dietary requirements.
