Stepping into… is a paid internship program designed specifically for university students with disability and provides mutual benefits for both employers and the students.

Applications for the Stepping into… summer 2014/15 are now open. Check out the Stepping Into.. website for available opportunities for paid internships this summer and more details about roles, locations and closing dates.

Career Access Through Diversity 2014

Hear from employers and gain knowledge to assist you making the transition from study to employment. This half day forum is open to students from all Victorian universities with diverse background or needs. The 2014 forum will be hosted by Australian Catholic University (Melbourne) and will focus on diversity in the work place.

The event aims to empower students from a cross section of our society, including those with chronic health conditions (mental or physical); or from an Indigenous or migrant background.

Key objectives

  • Facilitate engagement between students from diverse backgrounds, employers and community support services.
  • Raise awareness of employment programs available
  • Opportunity to hear key employability messages from prospective employers who are committed to diversity in the workplace
  • Inspire you to embrace the future and how you can add value to the workplace

Applications Open for Stepping into… Paid Internship Opportunities for Summer 2014/15

Stepping into… is a paid internship program specifically designed for students with disability, who want a paid, hands-on work experience that is relevant to their degree and chosen field of study. Their Summer 2014/15 Stepping into program is underway and we continue to invite students to apply for the internship opportunities relevant to their degree. Organisations that are offering the paid internships are members of the Australian Network on Disability (AND), and are participating in Australia’s leading internship program for university students with disability. Participating organisations include both corporate and government organisations.

The organisations that are offering opportunities this Summer are:

Monash Autistic Collective (MAC) Morning Tea Thursday 11 August

The MAC (Monash Autistic Collective) will be holding a morning tea, open to all interested students, at Wholefoods this week to celebrate our achievements this year as well as plan what to do for the rest of the semester and beyond. In particular we will be brainstorming ideas for our part in the ‘YES’ Campaign for the MSA Disabilities Office Referendum.

Thursday 11th September, 11AM-12PM at Wholefoods (upstairs, Campus center, Clayton campus).

This event is open to students on the Autism Spectrum, as well as Non-Autistic students.

What is the Monash Autistic Collective (MAC)?

MAC is a student-run group that aims to:

  1. Organise social events that bring together students on the Autism Spectrum and non-Autistic students
  2. Advocate for neurodiverse or Autistic students, and
  3. Raise awareness of the Autism Spectrum to students, staff and members of the Monash community

The MAC is run by students on the Autism Spectrum, but everyone is welcome to come to our events and our meetings.

New Access Parking at Clayton!

GOOD NEWS! There are now new access parking bays  in C2 at Clayton. Please note that  the signs are not up yet, but its very clear by the markings on the ground.

Also good to know – people who require access parking will not be booked for parking in yellow bays provided the disability permit is properly displayed. If you are having difficulties finding a close access car park contact Monash security.

National Disability Forum 2014: Survey

With a newly appointed Acting Disability Discrimination Commissioner, the Australian Human Rights Commission is seeking your views about:

  • The key human rights issues facing people with disabilities;
  • Priorities for improving employment outcomes for people with disabilities; and
  • The most strategic way to focus the resources of the Commission to advance the rights of people with disabilities.

This survey closes on Friday 5 September 2014 and should take about 15 minutes to complete.

People who complete the survey will not be publicly identified. If you would like to understand how the Commission will deal with your responses to the survey please read the Commission’s Privacy Policy which can be found at http://www.humanrights.gov.au/privacy.
