JobAccess Celebrates 17 Years of Service and Innovation this July!

Since 2006, JobAccess has been the first port of call on everything related to disability employment.

Over the years:

  • JobAccess has assisted more than 440,000 people – including jobseekers with disability, employers and service providers – with expert advice, support and information.
  • JobAccess has managed over 63,000 applications for funding workplace modifications. And each one has made a difference in supporting the employment and retention of people with disability in the workforce.
  • The National Disability Recruitment Coordinator (NDRC) has partnered with over 380 large organisations to build their disability confidence and competence.
  • Since 2012, the CRRS and the Hotline have lodged more than 15,700 complaints or reports of abuse to improve outcomes for people with disability and service providers.

Industry Mentoring Program Now Open

Apply for this Free industry mentoring program for students & jobseekers with disability – Applications open

AND has applications for the Spring 2023 intake for their free national PACE Mentoring Program! Students, graduates and jobseekers with any types of disability, mental health condition or chronic illness will have the opportunity to be mentored by an industry professional from one of the Australian leading businesses and organisations from August to December 2023.

International students are welcome to apply too.

  • Applications open now and close end of June (with potential of extension to July; late applications are welcome too).

This is a Monash wide scheme for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Coursework students to be employed as short term RAs on research projects.

Summer and winter research scholarships are run over the summer and winter breaks.

If you’re interested in a research career or furthering your studies through an honours program, this is a great opportunity to get ahead over the holidays.

Research scholarships aim to provide you with:

  • experience in an area of research
  • an insight into future opportunities within research
  • encouragement to pursue a career in research or academia.

If successful, you will take part in research-related activities.

Disability Discrimination Commissioner

Disability Discrimination Commissioner – Applications open

The Australian Government is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the full-time statutory position of Disability Discrimination Commissioner at the Australian Human Rights Commission. The advertisement and candidate pack are accessible here.

The Disability Discrimination Commissioner is responsible for the promotion and advancement of rights of people with disability, including promoting understanding and compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

The candidate information pack includes a detailed description of the role, selection criteria and how to apply.

What is PACE Mentoring Program?

When you sign up for AND’s PACE Mentoring program, they’ll connect you with a mentor from one of their member organisations who has advice and wisdom to share.

They’ll find the right mentor for you, based on your location, the industry you’re looking to work in, your goals and other factors.

The 4-months program is a great opportunity to:

  • Build confidence
  • Develop employability skills
  • Practice interview skills
  • Network with other professionals
  • Visiting worksites
  • Learn some top tips to get a head start on your career
  • Experience professional and personal development

Anyone 18 years old or over with any type of disability, mental health condition or chronic illness is eligible for the PACE Mentoring Program.

2024 DFAT Graduate Program

Applications for the 2024 Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) Graduate Program are Open!

About DFAT

  • DFAT works with international partners and other countries to tackle global challenges, increase trade and investment opportunities, protect international rules, keep our region stable and help Australians overseas.
  • DFAT manages Australia’s international presence – a network of over 120 embassies, high commissions, consulates-general and representative offices across five continents – and we have over 6,000 staff located in Australia and overseas.
  • DFAT’s 12 month graduate program offers participants the opportunity to learn new skills, be part of experienced and motivated teams, and do meaningful work that promotes and protects Australia’s international interests.

Each they select a mix of graduates from all different types of degrees and their program has two streams:

  • PolicyPolicy graduates work in areas including: public diplomacy, international trade negotiations, investment and economic analysis, humanitarian assistance, development and aid program management, international security etc.
  • Corporate Corporate graduates specialise in roles such as: human resources, finance, legal, communications, data, digital and STEM.
  • Austrade is also offering a Trade and Investment stream

The aim is to build a workforce that represents the community we serve.

Therefore, they have advertised Affirmative Measures (Disability) positions and offer reasonable adjustments under the Recruitability Scheme to support applicants living with disability to participate in the assessment process.

Successful candidates who are offered positions with the department will continue to receive this support in the workplace and they have a number of Disability inclusion strategies as well as the DFAT Disability Network to connect with others and advocate to the department on disability issues.

This program is designed to help international students make their mark in the employment market.

From Monday 3 April to Thursday 6 April Career Connect will bring together a series of workshops and online keynotes to maximise our students’ competitive employability and prepare them for the transition into the workforce.

Reminder! Policy Futures Graduate Program – applications close soon. 

Applications for the 2024 Policy Futures Graduate program are still open and close on Wednesday 5 April 2023.

This program is open to graduates from all degrees and disciplines who have graduated or will graduate between 1 January 2022 and 1 February 2024. 

We wanted to make sure you were aware that this year they’re offering specific career pathways for candidates with disability.

They will also be hosting information sessions for candidates where they will share more information about our program and run through the application process and provide information on each phase of the recruitment process.

About the Stepping Into Internship Program

  • Internships will run between 4 and 8 weeks and comprise of 152 hours in total (with the opportunity for flexible work hours to manage your disability or other commitments).

Are You Eligible?

  • Stage of study: final or second last year of university students (undergraduate or postgraduate degrees) and graduates up to 36 months
  • TAFE students are encouraged to apply, however, eligibility requirements vary dependent on role
  • Discipline of study: All are encouraged to apply
  • Citizenship status: Australian citizen, Permanent Resident or international student with full working rights in Australia
  • Location: Open to students located in metro and regional areas across Australia

We welcome previous Stepping Into applicants to re-apply for the program!

AND accepts applications from students with all types of disability including, but not limited to:

  • physical disability
  • mental health conditions
  • sensory impairments
  • immunological conditions.
