Monash Mental Health Week marks World Mental Health Day and National Mental Health Week. The program includes physical activities, seminars, meditation and relaxation programs, presentations and exhibitions and is open to Monash staff and students.

Vision Australia Further Education Bursary

The Vision Australia Further Education Bursary 2015 is now open for Applications. In 2015, Vision Australia will award Further Education Bursaries to a select number of students who are blind or have low vision. These Bursaries provide assistive technology, laptops, magnification, audio or Braille devices tailored to the individual student’s needs.

Eligibility Criteria

Students of any age can apply for a Vision Australia Further Education Bursary.

Applicants must:

  • Be or become, a client of Vision Australia
  • Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Be living or moving to Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory or Tasmania
  • Be enrolling to study at an institution in Victoria, ACT, NSW, Queensland, the Northern Territory or Tasmania
  • Be enrolling to study in at least Certificate IV or higher accredited courses including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (not a Foundation or Enabling course) at the start of the year or be already enrolled in such a course (preference may be given to those in the early stages of a course).

Each year a Victorian Bursary recipient selected by our committee to have best met these criteria will also receive the Fairhall Memorial Scholarship of $150.

The closing date for applicants is 31 October 2014.

Hear from employers and gain knowledge to assist you making the transition from study to employment. This half day forum is open to students from all Victorian universities with diverse background or needs. The 2014 forum will be hosted by Australian Catholic University (Melbourne) and will focus on diversity in the work place.

The event aims to empower students from a cross section of our society, including those with chronic health conditions (mental or physical); or from an Indigenous or migrant background.

Key objectives

  • Facilitate engagement between students from diverse backgrounds, employers and community support services.
  • Raise awareness of employment programs available
  • Opportunity to hear key employability messages from prospective employers who are committed to diversity in the workplace
  • Inspire you to embrace the future and how you can add value to the workplace

Fringe Festival – Tactile Tours!

Experience the Fringe Furniture exhibition with a guide who will provide audio description of works and lead tactile interactions with the installations. Tactile Tours are designed to introduce blind and low vision visitors to new ways of experiencing and enjoying the exhibition. Led by an experienced accessibility guide, participants will be encouraged to engage with the works through informed discussion and touch.

The works selected for the tour have been chosen specifically by the Associate Producer and the accessibility guide. There will also be the opportunity for participants to meet an exhibiting artist and discuss their work.

Sunday 28 September, 2pm – 3pm.

With the increase in autism diagnoses and the changes in diagnostic criteria over the past twelve months, there is an air of misunderstanding surrounding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Asperger’s Syndrome, Them Aspies is an uncompromising new performance piece exploring modern perceptions of Autism. Spanning a range of theatrical forms – from epic to verbatim theatre.

Stepping into… is a paid internship program specifically designed for students with disability, who want a paid, hands-on work experience that is relevant to their degree and chosen field of study. Their Summer 2014/15 Stepping into program is underway and we continue to invite students to apply for the internship opportunities relevant to their degree. Organisations that are offering the paid internships are members of the Australian Network on Disability (AND), and are participating in Australia’s leading internship program for university students with disability. Participating organisations include both corporate and government organisations.
