The Unheard Stories Film Festival

Premiering for World Hearing Day at Classic Cinemas 9 Gordon St, Elsternwick, Victoria, and travelling around Australia, this unique film festival spotlights Deaf and hard of hearing storytellers to explore and celebrate the diversity of lived experience.

Hear Me Out (run time 9 minutes)

This documentary focuses on the experiences of Sue Walters and Jackson Tait.

The narrative explains how Sue and Jackson came to have cochlear implants and features a short interview with Prof Bill Gibson.

  • Hear Me Out was a winner at the London Independent Film Awards 2021.

Deafying Gravity (run time 14 minutes)

Deaf queer aerial performer Katia Schwartz reflects on life, identity and her extraordinary career in this compelling documentary short from emerging Deaf filmmaker Samuel Martin (Sam I Am).

Deafying Gravity premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2021, this is the first time it has had national screenings.

Amplify This! (run time 16 minutes)

Showcasing the diversity of lived experience by spotlighting individual stories, this short documentary by Soundfair explores the issues of identity, access and belonging for people who are Deaf and people who have hearing loss.

  • This is a world premiere and exclusive cinema release.

We Hear You (run time 40 minutes)

We Hear You depicts the stigmas and challenges of living with hearing loss.

Executive produced by three women with hearing loss, the documentary was conceived, filmed and directed across two continents, all during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We Hear You was a winner at the Cannes World Film Festival 2021, this is an Australian premiere.

ADCET Marketing and Communications Officer

The Opportunity

ADCET is a component of the Higher Education Disability Support Program, and aims to facilitate equitable access to education and training for people with disability by providing information and resources to support disability practitioners, academic staff, teachers and students with disability in the post-secondary education and training sector.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the ADCET and Disability Awareness brand and marketing strategy
  • Content creation, including graphics design.
  • Create and manage the social media channels including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram across the different programs and projects managed by ADCET.
  • Management of Facebook and LinkedIn Advertising.
  • Production of print and online publications.
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
  • Podcast editing and publishing to podcast channels.

Your Application

To be successful in the role, your application will need to demonstrate;

  • Completion of a tertiary qualification in marketing and communications or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and or education and training.
  • Ability to drive and deliver marketing and communications to meet ADCET’s strategic objectives.
  • Extensive knowledge in applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Buzzsprout and Mailchimp.
  • Working knowledge of Facebook Business/Ads Manager and LinkedIn Campaign Manager and sound knowledge in SEO.
  • Extensive experience in creating accessible Word documents, Excel workbooks, PowerPoint presentations and Outlook emails and optimising for accessibility.
  • Training or accreditation in accessibility and/or related practices including Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).
  • Experience in working with content management systems (CMS).

Remuneration

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 5 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $92,538 comprising base salary within the range of $70,822 to $79,092 plus 17% superannuation.

New Resources to Support Autistic LGBTIQA+ Young People

I CAN Network are very proud to announce the launch of a valuable new video resource ‘Supporting Autistic LGBTIQA+ Young People’.

Premiering at their AWETISM 2021 Virtual Expo in November 2021, it was developed by Sam Rose as part of a HEY grant from the Youth Affairs Council Victoria and shaped by 70+ youth collaborators from across Australia.

What Does the Workshop Cover?

Sam Rose (they/ them) is a published author on supporting Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people and one of our fantastic I CAN Program Facilitators!

In this training video, Sam explores several topics to help youth workers, school staff, families and professionals understand how to support Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people.

Specific topics include:

  • What Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people want you to know.
  • Understanding Autism and neurodiversity.
  • Understanding gender diversity.
  • Navigating pronouns and respectful language.
  • Appreciating and accommodating sensory, social & communication differences.
  • Creating safe and inclusive spaces.
  • Nurturing positive identity.

Additionally, I CAN Network have created tips sheets and recommended resources (3 distinct sets) for Autistic LGBTIQA+ young people, the adults who support them and service providers.

I CAN Online – Austistic LGBTIQA+ Group

Looking to connect with like-minded people?

I CAN Network’s Autistic LGBTIQA+ online mentoring groups available to 13-22 year-olds offer a safe space for participants to connect with peers and mentors with shared experiences.

The groups safely explore topics including Autistic & Queer identity and culture, belonging and social connection, pronouns, gender and sexuality, self-care, sensory needs and emotional regulation.

Program Facilitators and Mentors – Barwon/Geelong and Kilmore

I CAN’s Program Facilitators are responsible for the delivery of weekly group mentoring sessions for a select group of Autistic students.

The Program Facilitator will work with and coach the Mentor they have been assigned, customise the session content to their mentees, and support the relationships and expectations of stakeholders.

The commitment involves a fixed number of hours per mentoring session.

I CAN’s Mentors support the delivery of mentoring programs for a select group of Autistic students.

This involves mentoring Autistic young people and planning/running activities during group mentoring sessions with the support of a Program Facilitator.

Blind Citizens Australia Hugh Jeffrey Scholarship program Applications are Now Open!

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the second round of the Blind Citizens Australia Hugh Jeffrey Scholarship. This scholarship aims to increase the opportunities available to people who are blind, or vision impaired to participate in tertiary and further education.

This scholarship is open to anyone currently enrolled in, or planning on enrolling in, a post-secondary study program.

Scholarship amounts of up to $5,000 are awarded to support students in their studies.

If you are planning on studying this year, are already enrolled in a course, or thinking about study this year – this may be a great way to kickstart your study in 2022!

Australian Network on Disability (AND) has some wonderful opportunities that will support leaders with disability to increase their governance knowledge and access to board positions, and career seekers with disability to gain valuable industry based mentoring.

Launching the Directing Change ScholarshipAustralian Network on Disability and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) are partnering to provide an active solution to remove the barriers people with disability face.

Australian Network on Disability and AICD are offering 15 full-fee scholarships to undertake either the Foundations of Directorship program or the Company Directors Course at AICD. Team Structure / Background

The External Relations, Development and Alumni portfolio (ERDA) works collaboratively across the University to initiate, grow and steward strong person-to-person relationships with key stakeholders that support Monash University’s research and education endeavours.

In this role you will be:

  • fundraising for scholarships for disadvantaged students and Monash research projects
  • gathering information and updating contact information
  • relationship building with Monash Alumni and the community
  • collecting online payments and processing in a PCI compliant environment
  • thanking donors for their contributions to Monash

Work Hours and locations

  • Ability to work on campus (close to Clayton campus)
  • Mon- Fri: 4 hour shifts typically between the hours of 12pm-8pm, Saturday: 9am-3pm (Alternating Saturday and Friday shifts may be offered depending on campaign requirements)
  • The campaign operates between March – late December each year (times may vary) with closures during certain public holidays and exam periods.
  • There is the possibility to continue working with the team in 2023 and beyond
