Victoria Law Foundation internship, provides 2-4 Victorian law students an opportunity to work at the foundation. The internship program aims to give law students an understanding of the work to improve legal literacy and access to legal services in Victoria. 1. Position Available – Project Officer, Castan Centre for Human Rights Law

The Castan Centre for Human Rights Law is looking to employ a Project Officer with sound human rights knowledge, a passion for human rights, great administrative skills and familiarity with social media.

  • Familiarity with video camera operation and editing are desirable.
  • The position is a casual position with an expectation of between 3 and 4 days of work per week.
  • Applicants with a law degree and specific human rights law knowledge are encouraged to apply.

The Project Officer will coordinate the Centre’s many projects including its internship, careers and mooting programs and will also edit the Centre’s newsletter, implement its social media strategy and engage in research, writing and video editing.

The Castan Centre is based in the Monash University Law Faculty and focuses on the protection and promotion of human rights, primarily through teaching, research, policy, public education, student programs and consultancies. For more information and details on how to apply, click here.

1. Monash Law School Postgraduate Prize Ceremony

This year the Faculty of Law is proud to be hosting  the first ever Postgraduate Prize Ceremony on Wednesday, 19 March 2014. Units with student enrolments of 40 plus will be awarded prizes. Letters will be sent to the winners in the coming weeks inviting them to attend this prestigious event.

2. Nudging for Better Health Conference

There is growing enthusiasm in government policy circles for promoting strategies designed to encourage and enable individuals to lead healthier lives. Such strategies draw on behavioural research showing individuals do not always act rationally and are susceptible to a range of influences which impact on the decisions they make. The research suggests that people can be nudged towards making decisions which are better for their health but in such a way that it does not unduly restrict their liberty or freedom to act.

1. English Language Skills for International Students

A new Library guide has been developed called: Vacation English – a guide for international students who wish to maintain or improve their English language skills during the university vacation breaks.

2. Faculty of Law – Social Media

The Faculty of Law now has a Facebook and Twitter page.

3. Monash University Law Review Editorial Committee Applications Now Open

The Monash University Law Review is the flagship academic journal of Monash Law School, managed by student editors and supervised by faculty advisors. It is highly regarded by law schools, academics and members of the legal profession. Typically, Editorial Committee members complete 3-4 partial edits of an article during the course of a year. The time commitment per article is approximately 5-10 hours.

To apply to join the committee please send a copy of your cover letter, CV and latest unofficial academic transcript (including semester 2 results for LLB students, and trimester 3 results for JD students) to law.review@monash.edu with the subject line ‘2014 Committee Application’.

Applications will close Friday 31, January 2014 at 5pm.

Students will be notified if they have progressed to the next stage of the application process – an editing exercise – shortly following close of applications.

5. Summer Semester B LLB Units and T1-57 LLM Units

Please note that if you are enrolled in any Summer Semester B LLB or T1 -57 LLM Units, your Units’ SETU online survey will open on Friday, 17 January and close on Friday, 7 February. Can you please ensure that you do complete the online SETU survey as we do value your opinions on your Units and take your feedback on board. Your Teacher may even give you 10 mins class time to do the SETU survey online.

1. JD Trimester 1 examination timetable

2. LAW7083 No Longer a Prerequisite for LAW7435

Please note that LAW7083 – Law of Employee Relations, is no longer a prerequisite for LAW7435 – Workplace Bargaining and Agreements Law.

3. New Stream – LAW7472 Principles of Family Law – T4-57

Due to the high demand for the unit LAW7472 Principles of Family Law a new stream has been offered.

Please note that the new stream will have the following important dates and information:

LAW7472 Principles of Family Law T4-57  Intensive 22, 23 & 28, 29 October  2014, 9:00am – 4:30pm teacher – Dr Adiva Sifris,  Exam – Monday 15 December 2014 , Assignment due date – Wednesday 7 January 2015.

The number of places is limited. Please email to law-pgstudents@monash.edu if you would like to be enrolled in LAW7472 Principles of Family Law T4-57.

4. Trimester 1 2014 JD Unit Discontinuation Dates

The last day to discontinue a Trimester 1 2014 JD core units (except new intake) without penalty is Monday, 3 February 2014.

The last day to discontinue LAW7470 and LAW7264 without penalty (January new intake students) is Monday, 17 February 2014.

Please note that elective units have different discontinuation dates.
